US Power Unit(s) in F1?

Has a US company (Ford, GM, etc.) ever produced a power unit for F1?

I know American teams have been in and out of F1 for decades, but can't find any info on American power units. In the 1970s, Penske used Cosworth motors produced in Michigan; however, Cosworth is a UK company.

Seeing GM or Ford as a constructor and/or engine supplier in F1 would be interesting.

We've got Ford and Chevy in NASCAR, and Chevy also in IndyCar. Out of all the U.S. car manufacturers, only two have managed to enter racing. I think either could make an attempt at developing an F1 engine considering their resources, but we may end up seeing Honda 2.0 if it happens. Which team would take an American engine? Would Ford have to develop a car as well? The obvious choice might be a Haas-Ford partnership, but the Ferrari engine is too attractive at the moment. I personally don't consider thinking about a US engine until F1 develops its new engine rules for 2020.

GM seems to have pretty good reliability with IndyCar engines. I realize F1 is a whole different ballgame, but the principals of combustion are the same.
