Track FPS

So I was testing out my track with various shadow setting, and realised that I get different frames per second with different cars. Is this down to the physics simulation of the car model, or down to something like the complexity of the cockpit model or windshield effects? I guess I'd need to test my track with the more detailed cockpits to adequately "tune" my track....
