GT5 Something that's been playing on my mind for years.

More of a general GT series topic than a GT5 one, but I figured this was the best place to put it.

Am I the only one who's noticed that a select few of the fictional tracks in Gran Turismo resemble real life tracks from the air? I've noticed that Apricot Hill looks vaguely like Spa and Tokyo R246 resembles Mosport. I'm talking aerial layout-wise... anyone think this was intentional?
 
I can see corners resembling The Esses, The Chase, Murray's and Hell Corner in a map of Blue Mountains Raceway, but Alpine Ring doesn't seem to resemble the A1-Ring much from the air.

Here are maps of Apricot Hill and Tokyo R246 compared with Spa and Mosport:
