ryzen 5800x3d on MSI 450 (which RAM)

Hi gents,

like the litle suggest i need your advice. Because i am already a decade out of building PCs myself i am a bit clueless.

I will upgrade my old MSI b450-a pro board with the r5800x3d CPU. So far so good.
Since i have old RAM 2x8 GB (2933) right now, i want upgrade it also to 2x 16GB (3200).

According to the official MSI support side of my Board the combo with the ryzen5800x3d will support max 3200 RAM. But there are only few RAMs recommended and all of them runs with a 1.2voltage ?!

On the site of my favorite PC parts dealer there are of course many RAMs to choose from, but all of them with 1.35voltage specs.?

Whats the clue here? And are there any other aspects i have to watch out for?
Do someone eventually runs the combo above?

Hey Kevin,

Your 5800x3d will support up to 3600mhz without issue, these things thrive with frequency. Timings are less important. A CL16 kit would be ideal but CL18 is fine.

Voltage is not important, 1.35v is no problem and will work just fine.

Assuming your bios is up to date simply enter the bios memory settings, enable D.O.C.P. and set your chosen frequency.

I'm running a 5800x3d with 32gb 3600mhz CL16. Please feel free to ask any questions.

It might pay to have a look in your motherboard manual about clearing the CMOS when you install the new kit, start with a clean slate. Have fun!

I have done the "upgrade mission" today. Everything went superb without any problems.
m-flash through bios with usb stick, old cpu and ram out, new cpu and a´ram ín. First time bios start and activating the correct ram profile. Done

I am impressed how HUGE the step is from a 2700x to this 5800x3d

No matter which game, no more drops or micro stutter. No huge drop at AC start. Fantastic

@BOB... agree 100%.
32GB DDR4-3600@ 1.35v-1.39v should be more than sufficient.
In my case, I 'hard' selected the frequency to 3600 MHz, tightened up the timings and set voltage at 1.39.
I'm not using XML or PBO and the system is fast and 'rock' solid.
Not a single crash during any race ever....and that is with Windows 11.
I purchased some inexpensive but very well built TimeTec RAM a few years ago.
I used a few heat-spreaders I had laying around.
The timings are set at 16-19-19-19-36 and they're stable as a rock.

Just went to the exact CPU yesterday.
it is a beast in multicar grids.

I forgot how good the R7 5800X3D was.
I was forced to return the first one due to partial failure after two days of use.
Black Friday presented another opportunity.
Jesus!...it is nice.
I've gone from a peak fps of 165 with everything maxed on my R5 5600X to around 210... same settings.
It is one heck of an upgrade for anyone thinking about it...and I'm on a B450 motherboard.

For me it feels like every other processor I've owned was a waste of money, this is what I was after all along. Stutters are such a rare thing nowadays that if I get one I feel genuinely offended!

I was so happy to have one again.
That CPU is an absolute 'monster'.
Mine is coupled with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE.
That thing cools like a 'Banchi'.
The outright smoothness is amazing....looks almost broadcast quality.
