Retro: 1992 Monaco Grand Prix

In our first ever retro post, we’re heading back to the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix for one of the most famed battles in Formula 1 history.

Nigel Mansell cruised to pole position having won the first five races of the season in his superior Williams FW14. When the lights turned green on Sunday, the Brit led the field into turn one, and began to extend the gap at the front of the field. The Grand Prix threatened to fizzle out in unspectacular fashion.

Fantastic photo, & fantastic memories of that season. Looking down on the cockpits from that angle, it takes me right back to that day, you could see Nige would not be able to pass, but just kept hoping he might find somewhere to do it. The picture has everything - the memory of a great battle in the last few laps; the great Ayrton Senna at his best; Nigel Mansell one of my hero racng drivers, who you just knew would collapse out of the car at the end of it all (but despite all the theatrics, he really was a courageous racer).
