You can use those red washers that come with Grolsch bottles as a cheap alternative to those rubber brake mods that sell for $40. If you're not an alcoholic you can even buy them in packs for cheap: https://www.amazon.com/25-pack-Washers-Bottle-Gaskets-Grolsch/dp/B00JDVE5EO

They're not super stiff though, so if that's what you want then skateboard bushings are your best bet. You can get them for dirt cheap on the usual aliexpress/ebay/amazon.
