On final lap AI pit instead of crossing finish line

Was having a great battle with an AI driver in a 2 lap race at Machwerk. We were both in '67 911Rs (he was in SOHC ; I was in DOHC). I was chasing him into the finishing straight. It was going to be close but if I hit the last turn perfectly I could have taken on the straight. But then he pitted

Why?
