How to edit .dds image files?

I would like to edit some track files. What tools should I use to edit dds files inside mas files?

I open DDS file with Irfanview32 then i convert with DDS Converter 2 to png file and i open it with paint.net. Once finish with editing i convert png to DDS and thats it.
