Is it faster to level up online or in career?

I think it mostly depends on the car class you are racing in either.

so i figured out that doing the special events, you level up almost twice as fast

You only get XP for each special event once, so they're not really a viable way of levelling up in the long term. Sooner or later you're going to have to just repeat A-Spec events instead to get to the next level, as you get the same XP for them every time. I don't know exactly how online XP rewards are calculated, but from what I've seen I would say it is faster to level up offline.

yeah, the best way really to level up is through the special events and seasonal events. Once you get to the higher leveled special events, you can get up to 2m XP so you can climb up a level for each event (Sebastian Vettel X Challenge).
