To use liveries in game: (you have to use car #31 to create the skin dir otherwise the livery might not fit). Click tuning/customize, and "create dir".
Find the created folder in: Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player\Settings\BMW 2002 \(number on car) Unpack zip-file. Paste all files there, and choose it on tuning/customize in game. Voila!

that helped... thanks! not winding up stuck down in the creek as much now.

yeah, on board graphics are pretty hokey pokey with these cars but the driving experience is a real hoot...

I'm thinking if I raise track temp much more the rears will overheat?

Check you are subscribed on Steam and will therefore have the latest version of the track.
I always use Mod Manager to check that I don't have any other versions and make sure I don't have any server mods with other versions of the track.

Also, did you install the new version of the car from the OP and uninstall the old version?
I'd remove the old version from my main rF2 folder just to be sure.

Paul says delete CBash and Shaders, do integrity check and just reboot windows
Maybe make sure you are generating a trace file.

Remember to download the whole track and not just three quarters of it, even if it is cheaper
