Best game for 2 player online co-op (ps4)

Not too sure where to post this thread as there is no General sim game sub-forum on RD.

Anyway, I have a friend in another city and we'd like to buy a sim racing game for PS4 to play online together as team mates (preferrably!) vs AI. So a private lobby essentially. We'd like to do one off races and also a championship that we can save and exit between rounds. Any ideas on which game is best? We don't mind too much on the cars as long as it's not F1.

Required features:

-dynamic weather
-pit stops
-realistic AI (in terms of battling each other, making their own mistakes, not too glitchy)
-online 2 player co-op championship
-PS4
-no game mods needed (obvs can't on PS4 anyway)

You probably want Project Cars 2 then.

Can't say anything about the game myself, never tried it.

thanks. Although I've read that you can't fill the grid with AI... so it'd be a 2 car championship basically! haha. useless!

unfortunately not. Read many sources from last 2 years. You can fill the grid with AI when doing a single race, but not during an online championship. I guess they tailored it more towards league racing with a grid full of human drivers.

I know that the single race AI filling is a thing in pcars 1 too. Maybe it's possible for championships there too?

I think the online championship was only introduced in pcars 2 though. (ie. an online championship were you can choose your friends to join, the circuits, the car classes, the weather variables, lengths, and it'd save your progress when you exit.) However, without the ability to add AI to it, it's a bit thin!
