Kunos Simulazioni deploy build update 1.12 and add new free content in the form of the fictional Highlands track and the venerable Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2.

Today Kunos Simulazioni have deployed a substantial update to the PC version of Assetto Corsa, bringing a vast quantity of fixes and enhancements to the game as well as adding the recently teased Highlands track and the mighty Group B Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 as free additions for the title.

Build 1.12 is one of the more substantial updates for Assetto Corsa in recent months and has a number of impressive highlights, not least of which is the update to the latest V10 tyres for all remaining cars not currently sporting the new technology. This is an improvement not to be underestimated as many seriously enjoyable cars have now been given the V10 treatment, something I've personally been waiting on for a quite some time.

Other notable highlights from today's update include the new inclusion of brake fade on the many vintage vehicles found in the game, a cryptic update to "cars handling and chassis balance and inertia" across all the cars in the sim and improved tyre wear and tyre graining algorithms, which now take into account the load operation for each and should make a significant difference to the way tyres behave under racing conditions.

In terms of the free content included in the build 1.12 update, players of the PC version of Assetto Corsa can now lay their hands on a brand new fictional race track and an incredibly successful rally car from back in the era when danger was all part of the spectacle of Group B rally.

AUDI QUATTRO S1 E2
Introduced back in 1984, the Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 revolutionized rallying. Just like the other manufacturers, Audi used the lenient homologation requirements to create a new rally car. All the car maker needed for homologation was a production run of a mere 200 cars.
Blomqvist's spectacular, sideways driving style suited the Sport quattro perfectly. By flicking the tail out, the Swede overcame the natural understeer of the nose-heavy Audi. He won five of the twelve rounds and was crowned the 1984 World Champion. Mikkola and Roehrl also won a round, which was enough to clinch the constructor's trophy.

HIGHLANDS LAYOUTS

Highlands - The original layout, 8152 meters long, filled with fast flowing path with curves and several jumps.

Highlands Long - An extension of the original layout, 12191 meters long and has all the characteristics of the original layout. This layout features some slower curves, a fast series of left and right turns, after a passage between rocks and the distinctive 3km long "Cabhag straight"

Highlands Drift - A configuration born to create long powerslides with supercars and hypercars. At 5167 meters long, this layout features long, flat and smooth curves, perfect for holding a constant power slide. The "tower lùb", guards the surroundings at the top of the hill.

Highlands Short - The shortest configuration, only 1714 meters, but based entirely inside the city. Incredibly intense and requires the concentration of a pro.

All four layouts share the same starting positions and pit lane, as well as the first corner and final 2 corners

was wondering the same thing, felt kinda empty when I tried pulling it at Trento, but it wasn't there for me.
did try trento aswell, living 10min away from it ;) btw, i like the "hate" that some ppl give u over here

"No handbrake at all. Central diff can't open when handbrake is pulled, so even if you can put a hydraulic handbrake, strong enough, then it would lock all 4 wheels... so no handbrake. Scandinavian flick is your friend."

Great update and the Audi seems nice so far. I like highlands much better than BCC; the lanes seem about as wide as most main highways in the states; they could be narrower (Highlands) but, at the speeds one can reach with some of the older cars, I need that extra width to recover from the jumps (P917). :D

The bigger surprise for me is Highlands Short; the Abarth 500ac is super fun on it. :)

I got to say that I played a fair share a RBR and know how a SF works but in AC I have no luck with it. Whenever I try it, I get lots of mid corner understeer killing every proper atempt of flicking it around the hairpins at Trento. It just feels as if the car isn't agile enough so I have to nurse it around like a GT car. If somebody knows a magic setup to make it somewhat driveable like a Rallye car just let me know.

I still have tons of understeer with this sim so still not really my cup of tea in terms of vehicle handling. It's pulling so much that I don't know what's going on in some situations and I have real problems with rotating the car properly. The sim is making improvements, but still not there ... the lack of feel for the front tyres is killing every enjoyment for me. Atleast the cars aren't flipping up their nose anymore :(

You can just delete it.
If deleting an original track should give you any issues down the road (during updates), just do a local file check within the steam app to fully download any missing files and after updating delete the track again.

I am a bit sad that Kunos missed the opportunity completely to do a track layout of Scottish country road many of use driving enthusiasts actually think of when thinking Scottish country road.
Too bad we have received a Need For Speed style Autobahn complete with banners, racing festival feel - only thing missing is skimpy clothed girls, bad music and vinyl sticker-ed cars with neon lights :-(

I am very much looking forward to driving the Audi monster though - such an iconic car!
 
The FF feels better almost like it did before 1.0. Was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car one of the cars that got V10 tires in this update? Or did it have it on release? It was one of my favorite cars already and it feels even better now.

Was really excited for update, and I'm glad to see that it has finally come to fruition. Also, V10 tire model is fantastic!
 
I can't really slide with the new audi. Am i doing something wrong? There's a ton of understeer and even when i try to let her drift, it just get control on her own (no aids). Btw, am i the only one that appreciate the sound of this car?
That's how the car was IRL. Many histories mention this about the car, and it eventually rendered the car ineffective vs the mid-engine competition:

Shortening the wheelbase on a car who’s engine sits over or forward of the front axle actually worsens weight bias towards a front heavy vehicle. However, the wheelbase being very short makes for a quicker turn-in and greatly reduces rear stability which, in the Sport quattro’s case, could offset its understeer issue if driven properly. The drivers had to push harder and aggressively “flog” the car through the corners for this to take effect. It was reported that the car still suffered from terminal understeer in low speed corners and/or if driven too cautiously. There was only one good way to drive the Sport Quattro: all out.

Although Audi would never admit it publicly, the quattro was a road car that was capable in rallying only due to its four wheel drive traction advantage. However, unlike the Peugeot 205 T16 and Lancia Delta S4, the quattro obviously wasn’t a purpose built rally car designed from scratch. The Sport quattro was a somewhat desperate attempt from the engineers to push the platform beyond its natural capabilities. Audi Sport knew this and had secretly started developing a mid-engine “silhouette” version of the quattro. When Audi’s top management found out, they killed the project because they thought that would have meant that their current road going quattro was not up to the task of winning rallies (in the public’s point of view). Audi later contended that Peugeot and the others “cheated” the spirit of homologation by building specialized rally cars from scratch rather than using a standard road going model as its base.
 
Fantastic physics and tire model update.
Audi 100% Turbo show hows it done, lovely sound and handling. Its mighty fast at the Ring.
F40 now is a proper widow maker, Cobra back to be more angry on power and corners exit,
lotus 98t and 49 are just perfection for me.

if they stop at tires v10 im in heaven, its just miles ahead of the competition imho.

Then you delete the folder again. I know deleting a folder is a massive hardship and it's absolutely unacceptable for Kunos to give us free content that forces us to go through such a long and difficult process, but maybe if we work together as a community we can help each other through the stressful process of not using content or even deleting a folder.

Walter Röhrl crashed a few Quattros before switching to left-foot-breaking and he prefers a much rear biased break balance. He was winning Monte Carlo and the Championship with a far less powered Opel Ascona against the Quattros in 82 because the Audi-drivers couldn't handle the car at that time.
