adjusting bloom and other PP effects ?

I just run a completely vanilla fresh installation of rF2 and try to set up a reference event (Silverstone GP, GT3 DLC) to set up rF2 the way I like it.

I have all graphics settings cranked up and find the post processing effects to be very excessive (very unrealistic look, more like a 1970’s softporno look than the photo realistic look I am after when actually being at a racetrack).

For starters is there any way to properly adjust (read: LOWER):
- bloom
- depth of field ?

I want some level of these effects (realistic look) but not all the way cranked up as it. omes out of the box.

Also: is there any way of adjusting image parameters as:
- saturation
- brightness
- black point / white point
- contrast
- sharpening ?

Are theree maybe as with Assetto Corsa photo realistic filters one can install as a pre-made package?

Afaik you can't change them. But what I found out about them:
- Deactivating post processing gives some strange looking effects so keep it on!
- the lowest setting looks the best

I have everything cranked up too but post processing on the lowest setting which is not off/deactivated.
Try that and it should look much better :)

Everything clips away soo early, it feels like driving in a Stephen King movie ... ;-)

Sadly no clue again... I took part in 2 rfactor 2 races over the last 6 months. I have a hud, it looks good and runs. Everything else I'm lost completely :whistling:
 
Yep low PP is much better.
Also try adjusting your screen settings on your monitor/TV.
I have a 32" 1080p Vizio sitting directly behind my wheel adjusted for softer tones that gives it a much warmer, lifelike look.
Things like backlight up, brightness, color and sharpness down really help.

It would be great if image settings could be done software based out of rF2 - I'd hate to break my screen calibration that work beautifully with other nicely dialed in simulators.

None of the current racing sims gets this right (each should absolutely have an image settings menu with the most common parameters in the UI).
The one that get's it right the best is Assetto Corsa as it fully supports user made filters.
I hope we see more of this in future racing sims.
 
This has been a major bone of contention since rF2 was released for me and I’ve argued for years that the game should have some sort of brightness/colour/exposure control. Whilst I’ve seen some impressive videos and screenshots of the game (it does tend to look much better in replays, particular in lower light), it has never looked good on my system, due mainly to excessive exposure and brightness. I actually did lower the brightness on my monitor, just to accommodate rF2, and, whilst it helps, it doesn’t cure the problem completely.

Unfortunately, after installing the Fall Creators Update at the weekend, exposure and brightness went off the scale and the game looked truly awful at times. Colours were washed out and dull, curbs, railings and skies were ridiculously bright and I’m sure the anti-aliasing wasn’t quite as effective as before. All other games look pretty much the same as pre-upgrade to me (though PC2 might not be quite as sharp), it’s only rF2 that seemed to suffer.

I even resorted to running all my sessions in the late afternoon, just to try and keep the sun glare down, though this caused problems with shadows across the track. However, after a bit of tweaking and setting Post Effects to ‘Low’, as suggested in this thread, I think I’ve got it almost back to where it was before.

Let’s hope that the update promised by Studio 397 finally addresses this problem. And a substantial performance improvement would be most welcome too.

Btw Dirk, there is a Texture Sharpening setting in the player.json. Though I’m not convinced of it’s worth and have mine set to ‘Off’.
