A bit confused.Assetto Corsa,VR,CPU

Hello everyone, I cannot decide between Intel i7 13700k and AMD Ryzen 7800X3D for playing AC on VR with several cars,AI traffic, free roam maps,weather mods etc. etc.

13700K-->8pcores/24threads=better single-core performance
7800X3D->8pcores/16threads=higher L3 cache(96mb vs 30mb)

1)I know that ACC can take advantage from that extra L3 cache of 7800x3d and generally that's the best cpu choice for that game even though is worse than its rival in terms of single core speed.
.However, does AC benefit more from extra L3 cache as well or should I rely on intel's cpu better single core performance?
The only benchmarks I could find for AC are on 5800X3D & 7950X(Triple screen setup & VR) 2:08-3:10

2)Regarding AI car number, is a single thread used for a car, as is the case in some other sim games? because if that's the case 24threads beat 16.

3)I've read that VR benefit from single-core performance,thus would that make the aformentioned intel CPU a better choice overall for my case? GPU is rtx 3090.

I would appreciate any input.Thank you.

1) AC is pretty easy to run (it's almost 10 years old). @maxed out settings (no mods), my 7800x3d keeps my GPU pegged at 100% between 130-175 fps (roughly), triple 1440p screens, 25+1 cars (Monza track). My GPU is an RX 7900 XTX.

2) I'm not quite sure what you mean. One car per thread, or one thread for all the cars? Either way, AC isn't much of a challenge for current gen CPUs. You could probably run AC just on the E cores of 13700k. :p (It would be fun if someone would try this!)

3) I don't have a modern VR headset. But I did play AC with my Oculus Rift (CV1) on my older 3900X and an RX 5700 XT. I don't recall what graphic settings I used, but I was able to hold 90fps.

Hey OP, did you decide on your upgrade? I am also wondering which CPU is the best solution to run AC VR fluidly.

I'm currently using an AMD 5900x (cpu/mem OCd to the max), a 4070ti (OC) and an HP Reverb G2.

During racing or even hotlapping on specific tracks, I frequently see the max CPU/Thread Usage in HWiNO64 sitting at 100%, while total CPU averages at 25%. GPU usage is fine.

At these points, the pc struggles to render 90fps. It fluctuates between 85-90 which is very annoying in VR.

Of course I'm using the latest CSP + Pure + lights mod. Most importantly, I also use the OpenXR Toolkit runtime, otherwise I'd be TOTALLY scr**ed.

Hi!
I can say some more personal usage.
I have 5900x + 7900xtx + VR Pico 4.

In solo or 1-3 cars on server = 90fps always.
If i have more cars on server 4-8 ~ 75-85fps...
If i have very more cars on server 9-15 ~ 45-60fps....

I think, 7950x3d is fix this problem, but I'm not sure about this.

On Youtube you'll find a ton of videos of people showing comparisons of 5600X and 5900X to the 5800X3D in racing sims (and other sims like MSFS2020). Also there is a review of the 7800X3D from Hardware Unboxed legendarily including an ACC benchmark, showing the 7900X3D and 7800X3D sitting on top and the 5800 X3D sitting way up on the chart. All of it shows just how strong this single core with the extra L3 cash is for basically every simulation game. It's super interesting but also logical from the technical point of view. In short: for racing sims there is no better cpu than the 7900X3D and 7800X3D right now. That's why i got the 7800X3D. And the 5800X3D will give you a much better and smoother experience than all other 5000 series cpus.

I too, went from the 5600X to the 5800X3D.
Though both were really nice in VR (with Reverb G2), the extra cache on that 3D chip renders a televisioin-like experience.
It is that smooth.
