3080 or 3090 for Triple 1440p / Reverb G2 at max refresh rate (ACC)

Hi all,
As title implies, I have a triple 1440p set up and pre-ordered a Reverb G2. Right now, getting 45-50fps in ACC under pretty medium settings.

I would like to really maximize the fps but wondering if a 3090 is overkill. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I think an RTX3080 is more than enough for extracting the maximum from any upper line Ryzen series of CPU currently out there.
Not speaking to the Op's case specifically.
Some guys see the RTX3090 and without as much as a glance or a review of system specifics, decide they absolutely must have one.
In the mean while, they're using a system built around an R5-3300 with 8 GB RAM and is incapable of extracting the best from the hardware.
In six months, those same guys will be complaining about how Nvidia cheated them when something new comes along.
It is almost comical when I see it posted.

I completely agree -- I have 16gb of 3600 RAM on an x570 Tomahawk MB. The CPU is not up to the task (Ryzen 5 3600) but I got an amazing deal on it and did not want to shell out for a higher end CPU when new ones are around the corner. I know how computers work ;).

I'm imagine a future case scenario, after I upgrade the CPU, will the 3090 make a significant difference in ACC, in VR, or is a 3080 enough. That's all!

ACC sucks rocks on triples. Does your 45-50 fps include rain/night? Which GPU do you currently have?

Day, medium settings, hotlapping. 2080 Super but Ryzen 5 3600 -- no scientific evidence, but assuming the CPU may be bottlenecking performance.

As I previously wrote, I'm thinking more about when I upgrade the CPU, will the 3080 or 3090 make more sense, with ACC on triples and in VR.

thanks!

Assuming the CPU is not an issue and the leaked benchmarks translate to similar performance improvements for race sims, your fps would likely improve to 60-70 fps with a 3080.

Could you please try at 5760x1080 but reduce resolution scale to 70% then run these settings at Nürburgring at 4 am with x48 time advance with 19 Ai and 15 visible .
Settings vsync off, triples enabled
res scale 70%
View distance Epic
Shadows Epic
Shadow distance High
AA Temporal Epic
Effects Mid
PP Mid
Foliage Mid
Texture Epic
Mirror view 100 meters
Mirror quality High
Mirror res High
opponents vis 15
Materials High
Temporal up sample Disable
Bloom Off
Fog Disable
Foliage Lod Mid
Car Lod 100%
HLOD Disable
Sharpen filter Disable
Blur Disable
see if you drop under 60 fps in this test especially the first corner here is very hard on my CPU.
I can run up to 120% res scale in non CPU depending tracks but this test will show how much CPU you have left and how high your FPS can actually go with current CPU.

With this test my 7700k @4.8GHz drops to 51 at first corner with me just around the rear of field. Where in most tracks even at 115% resolution scale I don't drop below 60fps.
Running at 70% resolution scale just removes the GPU from this test so it is showing CPU load so it's easy to see Max performance of your CPU.

I have the same debate. Current system is: i9 9900K // 32GB // SSD M2 // 2080 running triple 1440p (no VR). Hard to get decent FPS with medium settings on ACC.

The reviews will be helpful whenever they are running triple monitors and testing the sims we use (ACC, iRacing, AMS2 etc). For the time being, I've just see first person shooter testing and single monitor.

If you just consider the amount of pixels we want to push with triple 1440p (more than a 4K monitor), probably the 3090 would make more sense. But that looking at the numbers and not actual testing.

Other question is: Fouder's Edition or 3rd party?

Cheers

I have triple 1440 Dell S3220DGF displays. I have an RTX2070 and I currently get 28 fps with ACC set at "Epic" video setting with a full grid at the start of a race at Bathhurst. Based on the information available on the RTX3080, I am expecting a 109% fps improvement that would give me around 60 fps. This should be very nice. I would love to see 100 fps but I don't see that happening with "Epic" settings.

I decided a while ago that i was going for the RTX3090 because of the large pixel count of the HP Reverb G2. Especially in VR, it makes a big difference if you can hit the 90fps or not.

But then yesterday i saw a very good deal on a RTX3080 and instantly bought it.

I already have a buyer lined up for my 2080ti. If the webshop delivers and the sale goes through, the upgrade will set me back only 150 bucks.:)

I still have 30 days to decide if i should make the move to the RTX3090 or not. I'm hoping i will get the HP Reverb G2 in that time frame ( probably not)

If i can get my hands on a RTX3090, my RTX3080 will probably sell quick because of the shortage.

Lucky to get your hands on the 3080! I'll buy the 3080 off you if you get your hands on a 3090 haha ;)

But seriously, not bad for a $150 difference!

Agree -- I'm on a 2080 super and don't get a whole lot better -- probably closer to 40-45FPS on epic.

TBH, I only notice when it goes down to the 30s. I'm not a 144hz snob.. I think a consistent 60 would be fine.

However, for VR, it's far more noticeable. But the 2x 2160x2160 of the Reverb G2 is overall fewer pixels than triple 1440p.

3080 seems fine, but they're going to be hard to get for a while...

There are just a couple of settings that can be lowered from epic to high or off for like blur and 60 becomes pretty easy for my 1080ti even. I'm am at 5760x1080 but try to run resolution scale at 120% atm and just want to run that at 150% without dips below 60. CPU seems the limit there from time to time.

Check ACC forum, there is post from one user. Rift S, High preset, 170% SS, 80 fps.
But I believe his CPU is on a weak side.
