2010 World Touring Car Championship

someone said that after qualifying FIA had put an extra 40kilo's on Turkingtons car, i hope this isnt true because he deserves to show what he can do there tomorrow

Yeah James Thompson said it during qualifying yesterday - they did it after the Friday afternoon test session

I presume he would have had the same weight as Poulsen - considering they both have the old style aero bits, but they found a nice loophole in the rules which meant he was carrying the same as Priaulx and Farfus, so he was 60 kilos heavier than Poulsen and both the Bamboo cars according to the weight list I saw before the first race

For Turkington to come from last from getting spun in race 2 to 2nd in the indipendants is really good, hope he can put a good showing at Brands Hatch :D.

As usual though the races were not the most exciting, WTCC seems to be getting more dull every season but BTCC seems to always have really exciting racing :).

Agreed with that! But with the side-note I miss Turkington defending his title at BTCC. Nevertheless I love BTCC and always enjoy every race. So intense.

volvo.jpgVolvo Cars has announced that Polestar Racing – Volvo Motorsport’s official partner - will take part in the FIA WTCC events at Brands Hatch and Okayama this year.
These participations will mark the first step towards a possible full time involvement by the Swedish Manufacturer in the world championship from 2011.

"We see WTCC now addressing its major obstacle for growth with the new engine regulations. At the same time we see several national championships starting to stray from the FIA S2000 regulations by several own counterproductive decisions and dispensations from a manufacturer perspective. We will remain focused on the improved FIA S2000 regulations used in WTCC. That is why we have given Polestar a green light to further evaluate competitiveness and challenged them to establish a financial and technical plan for WTCC for 2011, including a full FIA homologation of the current C30 car," commented Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Motorsport Commercial Director at Volvo Cars.

Polestar Racing entered one bio-ethanol powered Volvo C30 DRIVe for Robert Dahlgren, who is currently leading the Scandinavian and the Swedish Touring Car Championships. "We are very happy Volvo Cars has made the decision to let us do Brands Hatch again and Okayama. We have done one World Touring Car Championship event per season the last two seasons to evaluate our car against the best. These two meetings will allow an even better evaluation,” said Polestar Racing Managing Director Christian Dahl. Because the Volvo C30 has been homologated on a national basis, it will not be eligible to score championship points in Brands Hatch and Okayama, according to art. 9. b) of the WTCC Sporting Regulations

This sounds very intresting. Polestar currently leads the STCC Team Championship aswell following one win from each driver (Robert Dahlgren (race 1) & Tommy Rustad (race 2)) this weekend at Falkenberg. In race 2 Robert Dahlgren was involved in a big crash and his car was destroyed...

Was it on the WTCC or on the BTCC were that car went of track and made several flips without hitting a singling person who makes sure that the cars escape the tracks when the cars are not working eny more.

Yvan Muller and Andy Priaulx claimed one victory apiece at Brands Hatch in two extremely close races that also launched Colin Turkington as the rising star in the WTCC heaven.

In Race 1 Muller and Rob Huff gave Chevrolet a 1-2 finish ahead of Turkington who managed to steal third place from Alain Menu's third Cruze, while Gabriele Tarquini scored important points finishing fourth and Priaulx obtained an eighth place that eventually proved crucial for the rest of the day.

Priaulx won the second race starting from pole position on the reverse grid. Turkington made another step forward claiming a brilliant second place from Tarquini, with Muller in fifth.

After a difficult beginning to his home weekend, Priaulx jumped from zero to hero, recovering from a 10 position grid penalty that had demoted him to 16th at the start of Race 1 to the highest step of the podium.

The championship fight is also very close. Muller leads with 199 points and has a margin of 23 over Tarquini, while Priaulx is a further 30 points behind. And Huff cannot be discounted, lying 69 points behind the leader.

Thanks to the 33 points he scored in the overall championship and the additional points for the category's pole position and fastest laps, Turkingon made a giant leap forward in the Independents' Trophy. After only four races, the Ulsterman is second, 11 points behind Sergio Hernández.

Norbert Michelisz won both races in the Rookie Challenge and ousted Fredy Barth from the lead.
