Straight4 Completes First Internal GTR Revival Build, Teases Non-GT3 Car

The very first screenshot of the upcoming GTR Revival by Straight4 Studios is not even a week old, but the developer decided to show another pre-alpha image as part of its most recent newsletter. Meanwhile, the first internal build of the sim has been completed - progress is being made by the team.

Just last week, Straight4 CEO Ian Bell posted the first in-engine screenshot of what is to become GTR Revival on his Twitter account, leading to parts of the community groaning about yet another GT3 sim. An Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo (possibly a 2022 version of the Evo 2) can be seen from the inside, heading into the S do Senna at Interlagos in the shot.

Straight4's latest newsletter states that the first internal build featuring one car and one track has just been finished at the end of July, so it is reasonable to assume that the Audi and Interlagos are the two content pieces in question. "The current test mule car was selected for certain physics properties (as well as our ability to compare side-by-side with external parameters)", reads the studio's statement.

No New GT3s for Now

More cars - all of them outside of the modern GT3 class - are set to be implemented now, one of which got teased via the screenshot in the header image of this article, along with the hint that "those who enjoyed GTR will recognize the mythical icon from the early noughties." Looking at the interior of the car, it becomes clear that the car in question is a Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello, which raced from 2001 to 2005 in endurance series like the FIA GT Championship, featuring a rather glorious V12 scream.

Additionally, the input of the community via the numerous surveys Straight4 has hosted over the last few months is highlighted as well, largely focusing on assists and how to improve as a sim racer. Interestingly, they show that the answers of experienced drivers and those who are relatively fresh behind the wheel and want to improve are relatively evenly spread, so with Straight4's community focus, we can likely expect optional assists and training modes in GTR Revival.

We have attached the results of the survey questions included in the newsletter to this article if you want to take a more detailed look yourself. Image credit belongs to Straight4 Studios. Meanwhile, a WMD-based Early Access program is possibly launching in time for Christmas, according to Bell.

I wonder here whether RSS were surprised that their model was used or whether there was an agreement behind closed doors. It sounds more like the former and then a deal was quickly struck. Nevertheless, a strange approach with a bad taste on the part of Straight4. Why stir up ****? So that people talk more about you? Is it really this old marketing trick?

Who even says a model was used, maybe they just asked to use a picture, this game isn't even close to being a functioning game.
I'd wager they asked to use a picture....that is all. People are fantasying about a fleshed out game already, this is why Ian Bell does this as so many will eagerly sign up to anything handing over cash....convincing themselves for eternity that this is the 'best sim ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'.....

It still smells to vaporware. If they really have something they should wait until they have something groundbreaking to show, until now they have been no different to what the west brothers did with racing legends. They are probably trying to raise money from investors, so they need to create hype over the just renders product they have as of now.

For those that were too young back in the mid 2000's this is what I'm talking about:

Hahaha, the fooled me with that game over years!

The question is....what are we looking at in this "work in progress pre-alpha image" screenshot? Other than the obvious - it's a 550GTS car.

I find it highly amusing that some people spend time being agitated about how PC2, the madness engine and Ian Bell have totally ruined their lives. On day release from their local psychiatric ward where the evil Ian bell and his wicked ways ultimately drove them to, I'd suggest letting go of the deep hurt as let's be honest PC2 only cost you £40 full price - maybe £50-60 with DLC - heck for the last few years it's been in a perma sale for half of it for under £20, even £3.99 I've seen it. But let's see what you get for your money.

1. About 150 cars (estimate) from all the big brands - classic cars and new cars, all genres.
2. About 80 tracks (estimate) of the most major tracks and most of the UK tracks.
3. Full on advanced VR support with advanced options for the time.
4. Full on Triple Screen Support - up there with the best i.e. Assetto Corsa standard.
5. Full on Lan Support as in totally offline if you want it via sportsplay.
6. Working online multiplayer sorta forever as it uses steam sockets
7. Full on support for buttkickers and motion platform via telemetry or custom deep bass for tactile audio
8. Easy way to create and save setups so cars can drive good if you're aren't happy - easy to do
9. If you can't iron out your issues with the driving of it using setups then that's down to you - clearly the sim' has been designed to allow you "creative" freedom, it even gives you an engineer option for newbies.
10. Continued from above - the setup is global unlike Assetto saving time
9. Easy way to use custom FFB files and supports nearly every wheel/pedal set on the planet.
10. Rain, snow and full day cycle even puddles for petes sake.
11. Advanced graphics - even today can look the very best out there with good hardware.
12. Advanced tyre and physic model which as far I know is more advanced than AC and others.
13. One of the most complete racing sim products out there.
14. I don't think AMS2 have reinvented the wheel either when it comes to the madness engine - just goes to show it can be whatever you want it to be with a bit of tinkering.
15. PC2 cost me and many of you peanuts compared to other sims with DLC.
16. And finally, there are loads of ways you can tinker with PC2 to make it run nice on your PC - it's not very demanding on the CPU either.

So after all of the above why do you still hate Ian - maybe your were part of the crowd funding thing and put money in, you know, the one where you got quite a bit back more than you put in, that one. Don't know why anyone feels "fooled" or "conned" or "deceived" to be honest.

Must agree here.
Still have plenty of quality sim time endurance racing the PC2 vintage sports car classes as multi grids.

So with Reiza + Ian Bell collaboration looking forward to an official AMS2 conversion, racing them with recent 1.5 patch.

Or maybe simply straight forward in similar GTR Revival sim engine (hopefully) would be just absolutely wonderful.

*edit* A silent wish:
Savegame feature, suitable for the busy family man/woman.

Hello.
Almost everything is the same now. Thanks to laser technology.
During a race on the PC:
The tire grip decreases. Sufficient as information.
Does that detect 10, 100, 10000 software sensors?
Does this correspond 100% to the original?
It is totally banana. I'm losing grip. This is crucial.
I don't drive a real car either, and I'm thinking about how everything is connected now.
The stroke, compression ratio, valve control, DOT number of the brake fluid, etc.
This is a computer game.
On sale for €14.99 or €21.99 including all DLCs?
Entertainment, no belief or religion.
So I'm sticking with AC. Then I know what I have.
Is it realistic?
What do I know.
It does what it's supposed to. it's fun. Ready
So why switch?
Unless someone builds an affordable holodeck, it will never be perfect.

almost as bad as those convincing themselves any game associated with Ian is the worst sim ever.

A funny thing about the choice of image uploaded to their newsletter (dunno about all the social media crap, I don't do it) but instead of saying to themselves, "Ah, it looks like it's some noughties cars, not the usual GT3 junk everyone and his dog throw into gam... sims now" instead, they jump up and down and cry "that pic is stolen" "we must show that we hate the bloke in charge"

Nope, Its because we should expect some authenticity, Its an admirable trait in people and in companies. I don't hate anyone, certainly not some chap who makes racing games, But they had another chance to demonstrate their merit and instead chose the smoke and mirrors approach.

What have they achieved apart from another hit to their credibility?

These guys need to sit down with a proper business manager and define some values to structure the company around, If they had this they might catch and stop themselves doing the stupid crap.

Lack of authenticity was rampant through the development of all three Project Cars games and it drove the series into the ground.

Sorry for the earlier confusion. The model was licensed from me (I own RSS), paid for, and is already heavily modified by the looks of it. This stuff happens all the time. Studios make models for other studios, mod groups are outsourced by developers. I don't really understand how this isn't known or a big surprise.
Ah, but you're spoiling the drama with your logic!

Can you slip in a "and we've subsequently come to an arrangement" at least so we can get excited at the (non-existent) drama behind closed doors...

Great work by the way, owning the aforementioned RSS content, specifically as I raced GTR2 a heap (and still do) but wanted something up-to-date and more flexible, I'm all for beautifully created cars making their way into other sims.
