rFactor 2's Quarterly Content Release and UI Refresh Out Now

rFactor 2 Quarterly Content Release 01.jpg
An update to rFactor 2 is live now on Steam, and the sim now welcomes four new pieces of content.

Studio 397's social media has kept us busy over the past weeks with the implementation of a new user interface and teasers of upcoming content. That content is now live on Steam for purchase, and the UI has been given an update.

The rapid-fire nature of the content release is part of a new strategy from Studio 397 and Motorsport Games for rFactor 2. Rather than release each bit of new content as it is becomes ready for release, there will be quarterly releases of multiple projects the team has been working on.

The four pieces of content welcomed this quarter include three new cars and a racing circuit. The first and perhaps most notable release is the Dallara IR18 INDYCAR. Studio 397 has bundled all of the teams, drivers and liveries from the 2021 NTT INDYCAR Series for this release.

Along with the INDYCAR, another impactful piece of content released today was Daytona International Speedway. This track has seen a recent boost in popularity in sim racing, with Automobilista 2 and iRacing already having official versions of the circuit, plus a popular mod for Assetto Corsa and an upcoming appearance in Gran Turismo 7.

Two more cars to join the sim this quarter are the Ligier JS P320 and BMW M4 GT3. The former joins a Norma competitor in the LMP3 class, and the latter helps fill out the GT3 class. If you've yet to try the LMP3 class in this title, you may enjoy the ease of use of the car thanks to its aero package and low, wide stance. The BMW has proven to be a popular choice of car in Assetto Corsa Competizione, and should find itself many fans in rF2.

With so many new choices now on offer in rFactor 2, it may be tough to decide what to purchase. If you've bought and experienced any of the four new pieces of content, let us know your thoughts below in the comments.

One reason is guatanteed updates and support i guess.
I have no idea how some people come to the conclusion that the free version is better. James did a very good job, but the official version has objectively speaking more details and a notch higher quality. The AIW has issues for both tracks. I also have no idea where people experienced AI hitting the pitwall. Had several sessions now and AI was getting just fine out of the pits and the AI behaved just fine on the RC, even in multyclass conditions. One advantage of the free version is the Nascar Layout and that it's free obviously. But to claim that the official version is worse is simply a lie or wishfull thinking of people who like to complain for the sake of it. Haven't tested the Oval yet, but will do so obviously in the next couple of sessions.

How's the new content? :roflmao: This topic is going places again.
Unfortunately yes. Each rFactor 2 topic here seems to get crowded over and over again with what some people think is wrong with the sim. And most of these comments are really justified, but not in a topic about new content please.

Coming back on topic… I decided to buy the pack with all the new content, since I think it is fairly prized. Did a quick race with all three of the new cars on Daytona road course and first impressions are very good. Especially the new Indycar and that was the car that I was the least interested in. With the new UI and this content rFactor 2 and Studio 397 have made a great start in 2022. Now please keep that momentum!

For me rf2 is the best sim for VR. *Any* of the following and ill buy some content again:

* FFB jolt bug on restart fixed
* Viable online competition system with people to race and ability to join anytime before race session and signups and website and rating (see LFM)
* Decent offline opponent selection system in UI
* New HUD
* Better AI
Same for me. For me RF2 is best in VR too. Tried all the other sims and still have them but play mostly RF2 in VR and sometimes AC and RR. For flat screen this list would change but cannot race anymore on flatscreen.

Literally rFactor 2 is basically the greatest Sim there is right now. The free version of Daytona is no where near as good. I think people are jealous of how good it drives and wishes their Sim or their mod was the king.

edit I came back to say that not that modding is not appreciated and all. I just think people forming judgements so soon when its hard to look at/for everything leads to not fully appreciating the content especially when they can wield it like a weapon or something in terms of public opinion; such is the case it can be a cause for censorship [of opinion; mild] in very limited qualities, which works for no one.

Daytona framerate is bad down to 20fps in some places anyone else having this issue?

The Dallara IR18 at Indy Oval doesn't seem right. They are 4-5 seconds slower than I am even if I increase the AI. Why?

For me the VR performance at Daytona with the Dallara is very good (16 AI) using the pimax 8k, however the night/rain performance have recently dropped but that is generic all combos so might be on my side somewhere since it recently was ok. (only had to reduced ss 10% in rain/night).

Daytona may have a similar issue to the problem I get on the the Nordschleife not done enough testing though. I can start up a race and get 20fps then restart the game and I'm getting 60-90fps with the same settings. This on a 3700x 32gb 3600mhz RAM and 3080 with a single screen, everything pretty much maxed out at 4k and 23 AI. Sebring is another track where this seems to happen randomly.

Yep, just did a quick race on 100% AI had lapped the entire field before the end of lap 7, AI seemed to be running like it was a pace lap.

Does make you wonder about how much testing they do. Given the content they just released testing to see if the new Indycar worked on the Daytona Oval at 100% AI and gave a half decent race would seem like something you'd test before release. Given the performance of the AI it doesn't seem to be the case unless a bug crept in post testing.

all I need to know about s397 is the fact that the Merc gt3 physics and ffb is broken since it was released in 2016 and is still a full price piece of content in their store. gg
I love the AMG GT3. I don't see anything broken on it aside from lacking a bit of oomph.
I have a CSL Elite and with the FFB Multiplier at 100% and an half good setup, I really like how it drives and feels.

I understood it was revised at some point, could be wrong

There was a small aero adjustment about 2 years ago to try and keep the cars from spinning at every compound corner.(like a right/left/right) But other than a mention they were looking into the car's ffb, we haven't seen any real change. TIKOA

I agree. Also, the same thing happened at Detroit street course. Why would they sell this the way it is?
