Rally Trophy Partially Recreated in Wreckfest

Bugbear Entertainment has given Wreckfest players a chance to experience the classic Rally Trophy game experience in a Wreckfest tournament.

The undeniably smile-inducing game Wreckfest has released a very interesting update. Developer Bugbear Entertainment is celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the release of their Rally Trophy game by re-releasing it in part through a Wreckfest tournament.

Steam players will have the opportunity to use the Boomer RS car over a roughly 6-minute windy forested Russian rally stage designed to recreate what Rally Trophy was like 20 years ago. The car bears a resemblance to the 1971 Ford Escort found in Rally Trophy.

Wreckfest has become a common platform for sim racers to relax and have some laughs since its release. While it's marketed with fun in mind, the driving and damage models are impressively complex. Many high-profile charity and fun events have been held in Wreckfest, as the omnipresent possibility of T-boning a rival on track or being T-boned tends to level the playing field and shift the advantage from who has the best outright pace to who can keep their vehicle on track while laugh-crying.

The changelog notes are below, and the update is live on Steam now. Let us know what you think of the Rally Trophy inspired tournament, or any other thoughts you have about Wreckfest and Rally Trophy in the comments below.

Wreckfest, in terms of physics and FFB, is really quite good. The whole "spiritual successor to Flat Out" thing I think has caused it to be viewed as a bit more arcadey than it actually is.

I followed the early access development quite closely and the devs, for better or worse, kept improving the physics and feel for, IMO, long after they needed to for an apparent "arcade" title. As a result, it drives really very well, especially on loose surfaces. It feels significantly less "arcade" to me than, say, the Grid series.
This sort of comment makes me interested in trying Wreckfest. I don't need every racing game to be a "sim" (far from it) but it's preferable if the physics feel is "intuitive" i.e. logical and plausibly realistic enough. And sounds like Wreckfest has that!

I also follow the game from the very beginning, I even have a demo of another game, which should have become Wreckfest in the form in which we have it. The fact is that initially WF was planned as a semi-simulator of real survival races "Banger racing", while the physics was very decent. But at some point (it seems, when the version for consoles appeared) the game switched to a more arcade path with "trash and waste". But in any case, the game is fun, and would love to get a more serious Rally Trophy 2.

I had been some months without playing Wreckfest but man, I really love this update and the Rally Trophy tournament.
Makes me wonder, I think Bugbear could just remaster/remake (yeah, I know, those hated words) in Wreckfest or using its engine and cars, as is. Just some rally stages and is good to go (and it has something rally games fans like, the damage model). Not to mention the game already has many rally-oriented cars. With a little of work...

I really love this special Addon to wreck fest.
It just shows how passionate they are.

Rallye Trophy was great when it was released.

Would be sooooo awesome if they could do a new version of Rallye Trophy.... Because a lot of people know that it would become a great title no doubt!!!

I would even play it with phantasy cars, no doubt!

And the other thing would be the damage model... Well suited for rallye!

Well, my thoughts are similar to what others here said. Rally Trophy 2 would be awesome, or just a remake using current engine, because this stage feel really fun, though wreckfest's physics has exaggerated suspension abilities, but this stage has one bump that the suspension can't handle and last time it ended in a awesome roll, which got me thinking that with some adjustments this could be a really fun rally game. They could make the cars a bit less capable and less stabile and also add more seriuos mechanical damage like blow shock absorbers etc.

I would love to see more "serious" wreckfest. Licenced (or lookalike) cars, touring cars, rallycross, vintage rally (without upgrade system, with more grippy tires) with banger racing as a separate class (with current upgrade/armor system). I love both wacky destruction and clean racing in multiplayer and tbh we are struggling for good arcade racing games atm.

Anybody who has any doubts about this game...
It's one of the most FUN car racing games at the moment.
The Dev's just keep giving free stuff.
It looks very good, UI is polished and the game runs very smooth, even on even lesser systems.
The physics of the objects you encounter are quite good to.
Damage model is extremely good.
What's not to like...
