NHRA Drag Racing Title Coming Late 2022 from GameMill Entertainment

NHRA Game Coming Late 2022 01.jpg
NHRA and GameMill Entertainment have shared the first teaser of an as yet unnamed NHRA game coming later this year.

Arguably the most underrepresented category of racing in the modern gaming world is drag racing. But this is soon to change thanks to GameMill Entertainment.

GameMill has developed a wide variety of titles ranging from American Ninja Warrior to Disney's Frozen to outlaw racing. This could be a cause for concern for anyone seeking a true-to-life recreation of hyper technical race cars like Top Fuel dragsters, but NHRA has leant their name to the project, and the press release from GameMill states that the game will feature "physics-based gameplay for simulated real-world depth and speed".

The title will be released on PlayStation5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. It will feature both single-player and multiplayer modes and offer Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Mod, and Super Street car classes, and include real-world NHRA drivers and NHRA sponsors.

NHRA and GameMill are looking for community feedback on what to call the title. A post shared by both of their Twitter accounts is asking for name suggestions.

The title is due to be released in late 2022 at this point, so stay tuned to RaceDepartment for more news and teasers in the coming months.

Well with this racing game we won't have endless discussions about

  1. "When will we get Nords"
  2. "I can't seem to make apexes
  3. "What brake bias should I have "
  4. " The tires are cold"
  5. "Fast bump, slow bump, fast rebound, slow rebound"
  6. " The AI is slow"
  7. "The AI will crash you out"
  8. "The day/night transition could be better"
  9. "I just want to get in the game for a quick race"
  10. "The pit stops seem to take too long"
  11. "VR makes the racing that much better"
  12. " I really wish they would include ( insert ancient car of choice here)"
  13. " I really wish they would include the (insert ancient track here) "
  14. " There are too many crashes in the first corner"
Well.. point 4,6,9,11,12 and 13 are still relevant to be moan about :p This game will need a seriously fun game play to be successful. Tough job for the dev team.

They made waaaaaaaaaaaaay better ones before then in the 90's.

Those were all about tuning modified street cars, which is the only way I'd be interested in a drag sim. The real fun is the tweaking and wrench-turning and seeing your creation rip down the asphalt. Just driving pre-made top fuel cars isn't my thing.
Burnout Championship Drag Racing (from Bethesda in 1999) was great. It simulated bracket racing with Stock cars and had more engine/transmission tuning options than most other sims in the last 20 years. IIRC even the engine sounds were algorithmically generated based on what engine configuration you were running. And if you had no clue what you were doing, it was very easy to end up with an undriveable car:

The last time I played drag racing sim was NHRA drag racing 2. It was a blast! Tuning/handling was affected by environmental conditions and lane choice. It even had telemetry data (Racepak) Great steering wheel feedback (G25 at the time of playing)! You knew when your tire gripped or lost traction. The sound on the video not so good as the actual game sound.

It could be fun
Tire pressures, blower boost, fuel curve, timing curve, clutch setup, and a dozen other settings . Pro mod should even be more fun with all the electronics, shifting points, suspension, weight etc. I'll give it a try.

Can't understand how dragracing can be fun in a Sim. With Dragracing you need the immensive G-forces, rattling and all that to unleash that adrenalinerush, etc.
I think it depends on how well its set up and who your audience is. Here's an audience of real drag racers running a highly tweaked version of GRID Autosport, with controls set up like a real drag car ('60's Funny Car), and they happened to get quite a kick out of it.

Saw Don "Big Daddy" Garlits, Don " The Snake" Prudhomne, Billy Lewis "Wild Bill Shewsberry ", Bill "Maverick" Golden @ Castlereagh Drags
Cherish the same as Brabham @ Warwick Farm and Senna @ Adelaide

I agree with you 100% Durge! I love ALL auto racing (except for Monster Trucks), and that includes drag racing. I went to my first drag race in 1967 and saw the same drivers you did (Jungle Jim too!), and was immediately hooked by the incredible sound, horsepower, and of course the smell of nitro.

'Merican's probably know some of those names, well, OLDER 'Mericans.... There is quite a lot of history in Drag Racing BEFORE John Force & his daughters took over the sport!
