Have Your Say - Do You, Or Will You, Race Sims on Consoles?

Do You Sim Race on Console 01.jpg
With two major sim racing releases scheduled for release in the next three weeks, we want to hear whether PlayStation, Xbox and Switch have sold you yet on getting your racing fix on console.

Much of the sim racing world centers around PCs. Multiple hardware inputs, triple screens, mods, and a number of PC-only racing titles have given an advantage to those not gaming on consoles. But that advantage could be diminishing.

In our latest Have Your Say article, we want to read your responses in the comments below on this topic. Are you currently sim racing on console, or do you plan to in the near future?

February 24th is the scheduled release date for the 9th generation console edition of Assetto Corsa Competizione. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners will be treated to the well-loved GT3 and GT4 sim at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. Pair that performance with the newest console-compatible sim hardware, and the gap to the PC experience is significantly narrowed.

Not long after ACC gets its 9th gen update, Polyphony Digital will be releasing another installment of the massive Gran Turismo franchise. Gran Turismo 7 will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5 exclusively. If history teaches us anything about the GT series, GT7 won't please the purists in our sim racing community, though it's sure to make significant waves in the racing game world.

Let us know your thoughts on console sim racing in the comments below. Are the aforementioned reasons why PC reigns supreme in sim racing world sway you away from racing on the console, or are there advantages you've seen in the PlayStation, Xbox and Switch world that are calling your name?

Yes. I like to sit on my couch and play racing games .
Upon the recent videos shown for GT7

I have went out and bought a PS5 @ £550 and @ £140 on a M2 Gen 4 1TB drive with the 25 Year edition of the game pre-ordered @£90. So thats a lot to put into wanting to play a "console" For me, even the pad will do for casual fun, well for now at least...

Why do it?
Well for me, because it will be:

A) Fun
B) One of the best looking and sounding racing games to date
C) Offer both good online/offline gaming experiences
D) Great range of cars and will bring updates

You cant even have positive threads or discussions focusing on GT or Forza here at RD Forums, which is a shame. Some seem to forget that much of our hardware is just expensive toys, the sims are just games/entertainment. It used to be that "gaming" was about enjoying what you played, how and with who you shared or experienced that with.

I dont think you need PC for that and of course, the PC brings many of its own options or things that cant be done on console.
Dont forget 40-50 quid for 12 months PSN+ too. Also I dont agree it's one of the best sounding games, its still pretty average sounding.

Yes you are right that is also needed to enjoy this title.
As for the audio, it may vary on some cars to how good/genuine it is but with Sonys 3D audio capabilities I do not expect it to disappoint in adding more immersion to the game.

We will see soon enough.

Only really GT7 or other exclusives(which at this point isn't many). Otherwise the rest is on PC where I primarily play.

I got started Sim racing with the original GT game on the PS1 and so I'm always interested in Polyphony's new releases. As you get into weekly leage racing with it though, you look to better Sim games, so unless GT7 is focused more on online competition I'll play it for ffun and leave the leage racing for the PC

Started this hobby on a PS3 back in 2013 . . . eventually moved to PC in early 2018, and won't go back.
This is simpl;y a personal preference btw, and in no way intended to knock those who enjoy consoles.

It's not fun until they decide to let you save your game on YOUR OWN PS4/5 instead of the current online-exclusive saving system ported from GT Sport, which is, well, hilarious, to say at least. Saving my single player progress online? I must be insane.

My guess is Yamauchi got tired of seeing those "Hybrid Car" video made by some so-called "gamers" and he decided that, online save is the only way to prevent people from editing cars' values, but isn't PS4 and PS5 already sporting enough security to disallow people from doing it with ease? At least I don't see any GT Sport hybrid car video.

Anyways, Gran Turismo series feels like a joke to me ever since they decided using GT4 models in GT5 & 6, so I won't touch GT7 until Polyphony Digital shows something REALLY promising - for example, bringing back the Special Stage Route 11 and Grand Valley from the original Gran Turismo, and maybe some other tracks from GT2 as well; also, how about the five-door GC Impreza?

Also, Gran Turismo going for e-Sport is the dumbest decision ever made.

Also also... can we finally have interior model for all Vision GT cars?? ONEGAI???

Sorry if my response was misinterpreted. I think consoles are great for sim racing. I would love to have a console setup. I just don't have the time and means to set one up.
Me being in the console repair-business for a while, all I want to say is, that it's a waste of money. I know what I'm talking about.
Spare parts, when your console breaks, is non existent. Consoles with broken HDMI-ports arrived in droves, at times, along with fried GPU chips. Some had both of these broken.... Changing an old noisy cooling fan will be expensive. No repair, meaning that the gaming carrieer is over. You need to pay for the faultfinding anyway...
And locked software is an evil.
Parents need some education.
Homework can be done on same system, giving the TV back to parents... :)
PC for ever.
The demand for Linux gaming is growing. /Pp

I tried it on the ACC on the console fells very different for me. F1 games are not sims. So only play on the pc. Consoles are only game machines. Graphics are great but the physics are not my cup off tea.

I think youve got me mixed up with someone else, if your seeking debate on this.
If GT isnt for you then why even bother to reply to comments about it.

Wont change my mind nor that of many others who are looking forward to playing it but also see what the PS5 can deliver.

I've only just started SIM racing. On my gaming PC I played RPG and PES mostly.
I managed to get a PS5 for the new Horizon game. It got delayed. So bought GT sport. Really enjoyed it with a controller. I then saw ACC on offer with the PS5 upgrade offer. Played with controller. Pants at it. So bought AC,ACC, Project cars 2 and Automobalista 2,F1 2021 for PC.

Then bought a Thrustmaster T300RS wheel and wheel stand. What can I say. It's changed the experience 100%.

I will definitely set it up on the PS5 once ACC upgrade is out. Plus I will buy GT7

I did in the past, but I really don't see the point using a console for racing sims when I have a PC. The consoles don't do anything better, and sims ported from console are awful. PC G.U.Is tend to be much better. My biggest gripe about the CM F1 series of games: the interface.

Well good luck finding a lobby full of clean drivers.

I prefer to sim race on PC. But i love to play Gran Turismo on my PS4 on occasion as well. Consoles are lots of fun too! :)
