Hannah Gets the Gift of Sim Racing - A Heartwarming Story

Hannah Joins Sim Racing 01.jpg
A video is circulating of a girl being introduced to sim racing in the most heartwarming way imaginable.

User TartineMyAxe shared a beautiful video on Reddit from the world of sim racing. It's a short clip, but surely enough to put a smile on your face, and maybe even a tear of joy in your eye.

The video shows Hannah, who lives with Cerebral Palsy, opening a gift. Hannah has always wanted to drive, and thanks to the contents of the box, she now could. In the box was a Logitech G29 wheel and pedal set for Hannah to enjoy. The joy on her face is immeasurable, and undoubtedly Hannah will get many years of enjoyment out of the set.

Cerebral Palsy affects the body's ability to move and maintain balance. It's a group of disorders that could limit one's ability to drive depending on the severity of the symptoms. Lewis Hamilton's brother Nicolas also lives with CP, and the car he races in the British Touring Car Championship is modified to suit his abilities.

We wish Hannah all the best in her sim racing journey, and extend a warm welcome to our community.

Heartwarming, yes, but for me, it's more of a fist pump..."SCREW YOU, CEREBRAL PALSY, I'M GONNA DO WHAT I LOVE, ANYWAY."

I feel uncomfortable, definitely not what I was looking for coming to a gaming site that supposed to give me a break from a harsh reality. Sorry if it sounds insensitive, IMHO there is place and time for everything, right and wrong.

The flip side is it was a needed dose of reality for me as I've been moaning for days about some minor shoulder pain. I shall moan no more and if fact be thankful I'm not stricken down with anything like Hannah.

Go on then, you've got me. I'm struggling to understand. What aspect of this story about someone's experience and enjoyment of sim racing (and real cars) do you feel its not appropriate for a sim racing site?

People like Hannah and I live with cerebral palsy every day 24/7, with rejections at job interviews, with Tinder dates unmatching us when we reveal our CP, with us not being able to do the sports we love in real life. Damn, I’m sorry you had the discomfort of reading a heart warming CP story for 5 minutes. Sadly, Hannah, I and millions of others don’t have a choice to close a tab and be done with CP.

About Hannah. Shes amazing and inspiring, and warms my heart every time. I hope to see her on track online soon!

This article couldn't be any more relevant and needed at this time of division that seems to permeate society and unfortunately it seems like some are actively seeking. I applaud @Mike Smith for posting the article and of course the incredible strength of Hannah and her sister Becky to educate everyone that people with life changing challenges have interests and dreams as anyone else.
Perhaps this can be a learning moment that no matter the difference, whether physical or mental, race or religion, homeless or homebound look a little deeper and you will find some of yourself in them and then we can begin trying to get along.

Lovely stuff.

I never knew Nicolas Hamilton lived with Celebral Palsy as well, I knew he had some disability issues, but it's amazing that he's able to drive in the BTCC still.

Apperently he's also better then his brother at simracing.

At the risk of creating a bit of a dogpile, RaceDepartment also does cover some of the harsh reliaties of the world of racing itself: It's still a sport that kills people, and those deaths get reported on RaceDepartment as well.

This, on the other hand, is lovely and heartwarming. The video right here shows someone getting a break from a harsh reality. Someone here who is going through some rather tough stuff is getting exactly the stuff that you're looking for, and for me that itself gives me that same break from the harsh reality I currently live in (which is living with a mental disability).

Great article Mike... and a great reminder of how we should all be grateful for those we love, for the luxuries we are lucky enough to possess and for all the things we are able to do (despite lifes challenges) :)
