LQ Copy 1.jpg
0.31 has landed in BeamNG.drive, bringing with it a whole host of new additions and changes. From vehicle overhauls, to map expansion improvements. Here’s everything you need to know to get up to speed with BeamNG.drive 0.31.

New Docks Layout on West Coast USA

Gavril T-Series Remaster

One of the title’s longest-standing vehicles, the Gavril T-Series has finally received a welcomed extensive overhaul. Some may even say, a total re-release. With a full rework of the original T-Series and a brand new variant entirely added, it’s safe to say that here at OverTake, we are already big fans!

Key changes to everyone’s favourite trailer towing workhorse include a brand new cabover variant, a remodel of the standard cab and its mechanical components, complemented by a stylish new aerodynamic sleeper variant, tanker upfit and, most excitingly, new walking beam tandem rear suspension.

Smaller changes to the T-Series also include a new animation for Pneumatic elements, such as the dumper bed. Compression brake support has also been added. One final element that the T-Series has been blessed with is the hotly anticipated physical mirror implementation. This feature is currently only available on the T-Series truck, but will inevitably make its way to other vehicles in the not-too-distant future.

New Trailers & Loads

Alongside the remastered T-Series come two new trailers. The container trailer and the frameless dump trailer. Alongside these new additions is a brand new trailer converter dolley allowing, for the first time, the ability to form land trains. Adjustable frame lengths and working locking pins also feature on these new trailers, further cementing BeamNG as a contender to being the king of trucking heading into 2024.

Adjustments to the pre-existing trailers are also in full effect as of 0.31. New 28ft and 53ft variants for the dryvan trailer, as well as a 20ft variant for the tanker trailer, have been added. smaller quality-of-life improvements to the trailer’s behaviour on the road have also been made to accompany the 0.31 update.

The final addition to this section of the 0.31 update is the anticipated arrival of the ‘Cargo Load Box’. this piece of equipment is essentially a weight-adjustable box with ratchet straps. It can be attached to the majority of vehicles in the game and comes in a wide variety of capacity variants. whether you put it in the boot or on the roof, the load box is a very welcomed addition to 0.31.

West Coast USA – Map Expansion

To nobody’s surprise, West Coast USA gets another expansion in 0.31. If you have not been keeping up with BeamNG news, West Coast USA is the map that will be used for the title’s career mode in the future. Find out more about the career mode here.

Improvements

  • Improved the Docks location with a new layout and container structure
  • Modernised Trilobite Fuel Station
  • Drastically Improved the Police station with a modelled interior, suggesting career mode usage in the future. New underground parking complex included.
  • Remodelled Shipping Storage Area underneath the highway,

New Additions

  • New Location on Spearleaf Island: Tyrannos Fuel Station
  • New Commercial Garage Location for Trucks and Vans

Experimental VR Improvements

With the inclusion of VR within BeamNG being a fairly recent addition, fans have been giving feedback and arranging a list of improvements for future updates. Well, some major ones have already been addressed. Most notably, the option to scale the resolution of the headset. the camera position bug has been addressed alongside the VRAM memory leak when modifying graphics settings within the game.

Vehicle triggers, such as boot lids and door handles, are now accessible with your VR controllers from a short distance away. Before the update, you would have to be right next to the trigger for it to show. Check out the official BeamNG.drive VR documentation page for more information on this experimental feature.

General Improvements and Fixes

Fixes to vehicles are always top of players’ lists when it comes to these major updates. The development team have certainly listened and added improvements for :

  • Civetta Bolide
  • Gavril H-Series
  • ETK I-Series
  • Autobello Piccolina
  • Gavril Bluebuck
  • Cherrier Vivace
  • Gavril Roamer
  • Many Other Small Changes

Whilst not groundbreaking, all of these individual small changes add up to a much more streamlined experience with your favourite vehicles.

The I key bind has been wiped in favour of using just the R bind to free up as many keys as possible. The ALT+R and ALT+SHIFT+R bindings have received the same treatment.

AI traffic’s lane awareness has also seen a significant improvement, with dedicated traffic planning now enabled. Whilst a small change, it makes the AI more predictable and much more realistic in that they won’t veer off the highway suddenly and then rejoin at the next possible point.

Known Issues

Following the release of the latest 0.31 update, there is a list of known issues. You can expect several small patches to be released between now and the next big update next year addressing a range of these.

Regard it as a sandbox, and it's already rich.
mm yes and no.. kinda.
Even as a sandbox, it still lacks direction. Sandbox is something that allows you to create your own story within the confines of some pre-established rules. This is to strengthen the narrative you tell yourself. I don't know, The Long Dark sandbox mode comes to mind but there are definitely many other examples. BeamNG has no rules, and that's where it falls short. You do things just for the sake of it, which is okay. The fact is that it could be so much more if it focused on something specific and concrete.

"Vehicle triggers, such as boot lids and door handles, are not accessible with your VR controllers from a short distance away."

I'm assuming there's a typo here and it should read 'now' instead of 'not'?

Thanks for the VR coverage. Would like to hear some opinions on whether its worth it yet for a VR only simrig.

I'd like more off-road oriented maps like Johnson Valley, and even more off-road vehicles. And motorcycles. All kinds. MX bikes to highway cruisers. And an FPV drone to watch races. And the kitchen sink. There's no kitchen sink in the game. :D

The biggest flaw with this sim is that it doesn't know what it really wants to be. There's so much, and nothing at all at the same time, if you get what I mean.
I get what you mean, because the game originally started as a derby game but then became a sandbox and then tried (and is trying) to be an open world career game.
The devs made a really damn good engine and are just trying to see what works with it. But personally considering how almost everything they tried with it worked i have faith in the game being fun once its done.

97% positive on Steam to me says your flaws don't matter ?

I would not want that Mud in Beam !!!
It is TOTAL arcade the things you can do once bogged defy reality and climbing 60 degree incline just ridiculous and they have the hide to call it the most advanced off road physics.

PLEASE !!!! :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Every sim they have increased prices 30 to 45 now to 65.
That is how they repay 12 million customers.
Repeating the same thing, add some features, different models.

If ISI had 12 million we would have ISImotor4.0 :coffee:

once its done.
lol. I don't think this will ever be "done". Let's call it "Car Citizen". :D Meant in a nice way.

Another title that, so help me god, sort the F UI out? And a decent replay system. I kinda love this title but I rarely use it - the jank is strong with this one.

It's almost superb but instead remains a mess of annoyance in which I suffer rage going round and round the UI, trying to get what I want to work, and force quitting because it won't even exit properly. So frustrating but so nearly-there.

I'm stonked to try VR. But then, add VR's constant tweakiness and additional jank to it?! OMG. lol. Will my blood pressure take it?

this game (crashsimulator actually) is imho a bit overrated
not sure why they need new truck, even more detailed cockpits :roflmao:
maps are too small (and this is not ATS) and the main point is just to crash into something then admire it in a slow mo
then do it again

The biggest flaw with this sim is that it doesn't know what it really wants to be. There's so much, and nothing at all at the same time, if you get what I mean.

As with all, it depends on perspective. I don't see it as a flaw, but as its biggest plus. I'd rather have a sandbox in which I can do everything than 10 separate niche sims, with 10 different handlings, limited content, etc.

It's already the most played car sim on Steam, as is.

If these guys would have a a boost of 10-15 individuals with solid coding, physics and graphics knowledge, it would take off like a Tomcat on afterburners. No other sim today allows everything from racing to rock crawling with solid, down to earth, realistic plus soft body physics.

I somehow agree and disagree:
Most of the times I fire it up, I just take a car and a map I want to drive, spawn traffic, and just start doing some mindless driving exploring the map, when I crash, I start tuning the car or select another car from the immense amount of mod cars I got (from official repository or forum, avoid other sites!).
But if I actually want to do something, you can do rally with the pacenotes mod + lots of official and mod stages, do a trial in any of the offroad maps, make your ideal car in automation and tune it to perfection, or play any of the many scenarios it offers.
There's plenty to do, it's more about knowing what YOU actually want to do.

The game would be interesting if it had at least simple peer to peer mutiplayer capability.
What do you mean by peer to peer? The game has multiplayer.

I personally enjoy BeamNG.drive every now and then, not the first thing I jump into when I start my rig (that would be AC or ACC) but definitely entertaining and crazy.

Thank you for pointing this out. It has been corrected.

What game are you even talking about??? i dont think BNG ever claimed to have the most advanced off road physics. Are you sure you aren't talking about Spintires?
