MudRunner Set For VR Treatment

A new dedicated off-road game in virtual reality is on the way. Before you get too excited, MudRunner VR is set for release only via Meta Quest – at least for now.

There’s something cathartic about slow-paced driving games, like SCS Software’s truck simulators and the mud-plugging adventures in SnowRunner. Now, the progenitor of the latter is set for a virtual reality spin-tiresoff – MudRunner VR.

This is a new dedicated VR experience, as opposed to an add-on for existing MudRunner titles, with eight vehicles, a story mode and an (as-yet-unknown) number of ‘untamed’ environments.

The aim is to complete a range of objectives and deliveries (read, fetch quests), in a first-person perspective, mixing VR with the series’ notable terrain deformation. It will also see you able to get out of your vehicle to hitch trailers, for example.

Published and developed by Saber Interactive, in the same stable as Expeditions, MudRunner VR does not yet have a release date or price.

Much like the recent official World Superbike game VRIDER, it will be released exclusively for Meta Quest devices – Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 2, and Meta Quest Pro.

Despite its Meta-only approach, do you think MudRunner VR is a toe in the water for future VR support? Let us know your verdict in the comments below, or via X: @OverTake_gg.

Presumably there'll be no manual gearbox options same as their other releases since mudrunner. Would be nice to get working dashboards for the original mudrunner but I guess that'll never happen either.

For a sec I thought 'Yes! MR in VR, but why not SR or their upcoming Expeditions?'

But looks like a mobile port, and an exclusive at that, so who cares, whether owning a MQ or not.

Looking at that image of holding the hook it makes me think of Borderlands cell shading.
