Jerez coming to iRacing... soon™

Jerez.jpg
iRacing just posted a picture on Twitter showing a work-in-progress circuit model.

The 3D software colors make the image look more fitting to Miami Vice than iRacing, but that's just normal 3D editing software things. Don't worry, mario Kart's Rainbow Road won't make its appearance in the sim, as jokingly and cheekily suggested by the community manager.

Instead, it appears pretty clear the track being modeled here is the circuit of Jerez in Spain - more precisely showing the last corner on the foreground, named after Moto GP champion Jorge Lorenzo. Although it is mostly known for the bike races nowadays, the circuit has hosted Formula 1 in the past, from 1986 to 1990, plus 1994 and 1997.

What do you think about this track, and which cars would you like to race there ?

Jerez is a great track for bike racing but not so great for cars that are faster than a GT4.
really?
it was several years the track for F1 World Championship.
Senna won twice, Prost too, Schumacher and others were winners there.
Learn history, if you really think this is a GT4 track :roflmao:
definitely not for lame cars ;)

With every update I hear coming from iRacing recently, I get more and more tempted to try it out.

But I don't want to give into the temptation of spending thousands of bucks.
In my opinion it's worth it if you have the time to race frequently, and you stick with only one or two series a season. This keeps cost down a bit but can be quite enjoyable. I tried iracing briefly years ago but didn't give it a proper go until last year. The main reason I didn't was that I couldn't justify the cost for myself.

I bought a two year about six months ago and enjoyed it immensely when I had the timd to practice and race. Life has gotten busier so I haven't really had time to practice and put in a proper race recently.

What I have enjoyed the most about it is learning new circuits I had no prior experience with. There are plenty of tracks in the simulator that aren't in others, or at least they aren't readily available to race other people.

I still prefer the driving in other sims over iracing but iracing isn't bad by any means.

Buying every DLC would set me back about 2000$ iirc (without discounts).

And here's the thing: I am a guy that buys every DLC for a game I like. Did that with RaceRoom and rFactor 2 already. :whistling:

EDIT: And before anyone says anything relating to a "guide on how to buy iRacing DLC", if it has to be that complicated that one needs a guide, my interest dwindles.
You won't be buying. iRacing rents you their DLC. Beware on what you spend.

It's just that - a fallacy. Smart people know that sunk costs mean nothing going forward
The sunk cost fallacy has also been called the "Concorde fallacy":
the British and French governments took their past expenses on the costly supersonic jet as a rationale for continuing the project, as opposed to "cutting their losses".

CatsAreTheWorstDogs: Yeah I had a good laugh when I discussed it with a lot of iRacers who used it as the main reason they wasnt able just to abort their membership like me and say goodbye to their rented cars and tracks.
Hehe its funny with such analogies because folowing this one I guess iRacing can be seen as the aborted Concorde.:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

wasn't that just an XB-70 Valkyrie without the nukes? ;)

I admit some resemblance - if you dont know too much about airplanes my good man :D

CatsAreTheWorstDogs: The Valkyrie didnt ever carry any bombs. Nuclear or conventional ;)

Looking forward to the updates (don’t care much about rain). My favorite MP sim. Jerez is good fun in SP AMS2.

I get that iRacing can be expensive but it doesn’t have to be. I pay $149 for a 2 year sub during Black Friday. Using base content I race 8 of 12 races of schedules I choose (using base tracks). This gets me a free car every 13 weeks (rinse and repeat - so they give me back $40 a year). I’ve never paid for a car. I occasionally by a track. I get awesome free paints integrated into the sim. They build me a schedule, give me a mobile app with all my stats, let me test drive cars I don’t own during every update or patch. Offer free cars and tracks (GR6 Toyota and Virginia Raceway this update).

I think as one learns how to optimize the service offering and not feast on every track and car the cost can be managed. Over the years I’ve accumulated enough content to earn 20% off anything. I’m not promoting iRacing, simply sharing there’s approaches beyond the ones often stated.

I love AMS2, it’s early Feb and I’ve already spent $35 US on 3-DLC, more than iRacing but I don’t compare, they bring me enjoyment.
