2022 Formula One Spanish Grand Prix

F1 returns to action this week for the Spanish Grand Prix, with Red Bull and Ferrari fighting a tightly contested battle and multiple teams bringing significant upgrade packages.

A modified Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is the site of the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix for Formula 1. The title battle for both drivers and constructors is still a close fight, with Ferrari narrowly holding onto a lead in the constructor's championship, and Max Verstappen inching ever closer to Charles Leclerc in the drivers standings.

Much of the buzz surrounding this week's race concerns upgrades from mid-pack teams. Aston Martin arrived to Catalunya with a car that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Red Bull. Mercedes is also turning heads, as their upgraded cars look to be more on pace with Ferrari and Red Bull than we've seen so far this year.

The action this weekend will be the first time for most fans to see the track's newest form. The difficult and slow La Caixa corner at turn 10 has been rounded, which will allow the cars to carry a little more speed while still retaining the intent of the circuit overall.

Leclerc's 19-point advantage over Verstappen could be considered a safe lead in some circumstances, but given the inconsistency of the Red Bull in the first few races and coming off of two consecutive Verstappen wins at Imola and Miami, that lead seems far from safe.

Ferrari's lead in the constructor's championship has likewise been threatened, as a tough outing for Ferrari at Imola saw Leclerc and Sainz manage to finish only 6th and 20th, respectively. However, the pair claimed two of the three podium positions in Miami to help retain the championship lead.

Anyone that would not agree to that is not watching F1 to see RACING
I want to see three teams up top fighting for wins.

McLaren is a good option. Haas is fun to watch. Alpine is easy to root for. Alpha Tauri has their moments. I'd love to see Aston sort things out for Vettel to be relevant again.

Mercedes can still get bent. (But they'll make it to the party eventually, whether we like it or not.)

Guess I'm not watching F1 for RACING. :x3:

I don't know what I find more interesting.

The actual Formula 1 weekend, or the bollocks posting that goes on in the RD F1 threads.
And the sad thing is, this is one of the *best* places for F1 commentary on the internet. Have you seen Reddit? :roflmao:

You mean the "old ways" that any driver that had to fight Lewis on track "strangely reverted" to?...

Lewis even went around banging wheels with Button, so i am inclined to say that he is the pattern there in all those collisions, not the other drivers.
Believe whatever makes you happy

The first timed Q lap is always a safelap.
So feel sorry for Verstappen he was not able to put a proper time down.
Looking forward to see what happens this afternoon.
Hope Leclerc keeps his act together.
Or Verstappen in hunting mode.
May the best driver/car win!

I think this will improve the race. Pole for verstappen could deliver a boring race regarding the win. Let them fight for it. Hope Russel is also able to show his true racepace in a competitive car. Cant help but be dissapointed in Perez though. He seems back to old habbits, 0.5+ slower laptimes then teammate.

But tbh Perez was never a good qualifier but is more than solid during the race. Also having Verstappen as teammate is difficult for any driver regarding pure pace.

I agree that it would be nice to see Russell say 'Hello' to Leclerc & Verstappen. :)

Kevin Magnussen tells Sky Sports that he was also experiencing DRS problems "all the way through qualifying."

Haas team boss Guenther Steiner kept it clean and called the session "never-wracking".
Thanks for this head up - Pepp :D

Didnt know of this DRS thing - hehe but I guess if it had been Max, Leclerc or mighty Sir Lewis then we would have heard LOUD moaning over the radio.

CatsAreTheWorstDogs: My comment above that I would have "hoped for somehing #5-ish" wasnt completely insane.:roflmao:
Because Magnussen himself said afterwards that without this "minor" DRS thing he would maybe have got the #6 position.
Glad Steiner survived :roflmao:

Anything about track temps ??
Some extremely heated winds, is
coming north from Africa hitting
southern Europe .. bad they say..

[Latest BBC Live ..got it.
You could fry an egg on that track. It's sizzling. The Spanish fans are soaking up every ounce of Carlos Sainz as he fires some T-shirts from the big novelty gun into the crowd.]
It's 5k viewers, right now and rising.
Last race over 90k. Good Live text
reporting.

Contact between Magnussen and Hamilton through Turn 4 - Magnussen is in the gravel, and it looks like Hamilton has a puncture. The Dane has managed to escape he gravel and they are both trailing around well off the back of the pack.

Magnusson hit´ed me :roflmao:

I thought the running story was only Hamilton blames his team...but somebody's getting rather snippy at his team's ability to get DRS working....don't mind it worked every race for several years...but nope, Max always keeps his cool, right? ;)

Sorry just had to take a stab, people act like Ham is the only driver that complains in history...

Refreshing tire strategy for Magnussen.
Maybe he will take all by surprise in the end.
