California Refresh Set For American Truck Simulator 1.5 Update

California Refresh Set For American Truck Simulator 1.5 Update RD.jpg
It’s been in the works for a long time, but Phase 3 of American Truck Simulator’s California rework seems imminent.

Phase 3 of SCS Software’s Californian rework project was first announced way back in May of last year, but now it seems like American Truck Simulator’s next update could be just around the corner.

Yesterday, 7th March 2024, what is described as the ‘final’ blog post and trailer for the next big content update for the sim was published.

To close the series of teasers and development updates is the undulating city of San Francisco, home to cable cars (or trams) and chai latte-drinking tech heads.

It hasn’t been rebuilt from the ground up; instead, certain areas have been re-created with fresh material switches and newer models. Meanwhile, view distances have been increased.

The Golden Gate Bridge is key to these changes. An all-new representation will be included which is slightly longer and wider. There is also set to be an arch at the south end, a new tollgate and it is said that permanent fog is removed – conditions instead changing based on the platform’s weather system.

The development team also claims to have reworked the waterfront Pier 39 area, with a new truck stop, sea lions and the pier itself being facelifted.

The road network and signage are on the list to be updated too, with most of the steep streets said to now become “secret roads”, while players will soon be able to drive amongst imposing skyscrapers.

We couldn’t help but notice in the latest trailer, which covers the wider California area and not just San Francisco, there is a Voltison Motors factory, cheekily reminding us of Tesla.

Elsewhere, Modesto replaces Oakdale, not to be confused with Oakland which has been reimagined and the addition of the US-50 between Sacramento and Carson City is welcome.

There is a lot more to it, we’ve just mentioned some of the highlights here. It is all set to roll out as a free 1.50 update for the platform, although a release date is not yet forthcoming.

Are you looking forward to the extensive California reworking in American Truck Simulator? Let us know in the comments below.

Perfect timing, I've just been revisiting ATS after a long hiatus the last couple of days. It's such a relaxing, scenic change of pace from racing sims. There is one thing though I'd love to see added - deliveries to race tracks! Race car trailers! How cool would it be to bring an Indy Car or IMSA trailer to Laguna Seca, Stock Car trailer to Sonoma or Fontana, Phoenix, etc.

This is the California of years past. Unless they add all the homeless encampments and boarded up business', it is not realistic.

As Thomas Harrison-Lord said above....Now that is an epic idea!

Well you can 'MetalMania'...drive your vehicle onto the Trailer / drive Truck to short destination / get in car and unload / drive, race car around track and when finished load them up again....but in another Sim.;)

ATS does look very good though....hmmmm:D
when I need some chill time i pop it on the rig, with TrackIr, use its in game radio for tunez, wear a truckers cap, pop a brewski and pretend I'm inbred and travelling with "friends of the road" (via a mod)... Its amazing!

Love how SCS keeps going back to old areas and updating them in both ATS and ETS 2. Makes for a better argument to buy DLC for new areas added to the games.
