This is my first attempt to fix the games crowd audio. I like to use the external chase camera and I think crowd audio is far too quiet and passive; people at the side of the track just mumbling!
To use this mod place the file into your .pak's folder, as with other mods. As a result you should hear a much more lively crowd! More cheering and horns like real WRC.
What did I do? With some help from Mengodriom I figured out how to extract the crowd audio. What I found when looking at the game files is that there is a lot of good exciting crowd audio such as cheers, horns, cowbells etc. But the game never uses them! It uses a few main sounds that are sometimes just boring mumbling and chatting. So EA could fix this, if they prioritised the more energetic sounds.
All I have done is extract some of the better sounds the game already has, but used those to replace the boring ones. If I have more time I can try more and try more combinations of sounds. I have tried a few combinations (one was too aggressive with constant air horns) but there is no way of telling which of the 3-4 boring bits of audio plays when, so it’s tricky to know what files to swap (there are 250 different crowd sounds, even though the game seems to use about 6). So over time I’ll try to create a few different files
Right now it can be a little sudden, but I certainly think it is better. It is also not necessarily consistent with the size of the crowd (but neither was the vanilla game).
I have also tried to increase the volume of the crowd, but not sure that has worked as well as I hope. So I generally find the crowd sounds better (from a chase camera) if you reduce engine and surface audio to 70% and co-driver to 15%, but from the internal camera that stuff won't matter. I just wish they’d give us more granular volume control.
