Welcome to the Race Department Historic Grand Prix (RDHGP)

The RDHGP League staff welcome you to the 2009 RDHGP season.

We are using a selected field of 5 cars conforming to the FIA GTC65 specifications & regulations. The season will run over 8 races, 7 races over a distance of 100km, plus the season finale over a distance of 200km. The 100km races will be run on alternating Thursdays commencing 7th May, with the season finale running on Saturday 8th August.

While by it’s very nature, the League environment is more competitive than the Club environment, please remember what makes the GTL Club so unique – our consideration for all other competitors at all times. Let’s try and carry this tradition of clean, fun and considerate racing over into a League environment.

Circuit Notes

Ireland’s Mondello Park was opened in 1968, the original 1.3km track being extended to 1.9km for the following season for what we know as the “National” circuit layout. The track was extended in 1998 to 3.5km – the “International” circuit.

The RDHGP, due it’s prestige, unique format and exotic blend of vehicle, will be using the 2.8km “Intermediate” layout, which has not been used for car racing since 2000. We thank Mondello Park for re-opening this rarely used layout for us.

The Race Director has some notes for drivers. Please see the track map above for location of Race Direction note:-

  1. The Start / Finish straight is fairly narrow, and the pitlane exit can be quite tricky. It would be unreasonable and unfeasible to expect drivers at the race start to avoid the pitlane exit. Therefore, the Race Director has the following finding:
The Pit Exit is usable only at the race start (defined by the Go signal until the completion of Corner 1, Lap 1 by the last runner) as normal racetrack and thereafter, for avoidance purposes only. Drivers using it as their habitual line will face penalty.

  2. The Esses have a tyre wall that can, if impacted, throw the affected car across the track, potentially into the path of following cars. Other areas of the track tend to send you away from the track rather than back across it, which is why this one is being mentioned.

  3. The Pitlane Entrance is immediately beyond a fast, accelerating turn. If you are intending to pit and you have a car close behind you who you think is not going to pit, you will need to be careful when and how you brake for the Pitlane. Similarly, if you are following a car closely through this turn, you will need to be aware of the possibility of them pitting.

Incidents, Investigations and Penalties

As this is round 1 there are no outstanding Incidents, Investigations nor Penalties.
Please remember, the League staff will only review incidents if they are reported to them.

No report = no review.

Please try and remember the incident reporting guidelines: review, 24 hour cool off, review again. Only after following the above process, and if you are convinced you still need to report it, should you let the League staff know. Please give as much information as possible during the report (time of incident, drivers involved etc.)

The RDHGP will not be running the virtual license format adopted by the RDTCC. Incidents will be treated on a case-by-case basis, and punishments dispensed on the merits (or not) of the complaint. The League Staff reserve the right to remove any driver from the league if a pattern of infringement becomes apparent. League Staff decisions on penalties are final and not subject to appeal.

Liveries

You have chosen your car and livery already, and you must only drive your chosen car at any time during an RDHGP event. We are using the default liveries only in RDHGP.

Competitors Summary

Attached to this briefing, you will find the summary for all competitors that have registered for this league. This reflects the driver registered in GPCOS, not the sign up thread. This will show their name, nationality, vehicle choice, number and livery. This is for reference only and will not change to reflect performance or attendance. As drivers register in GPCOS, the chart will be updated.

GPCOS will be the tool for defining attendance and record keeping.

Good racing, fellas. Clean stuff.

Question for Dawes. Are you actually moving the camera around like that as you drive?!??!!?!? If so, WOW. I mean, if I even tried doing something like that for a moment my car would be an unrecognizable, steaming pile of rubble on the side of the road... O_O But thanks for doing it, it's always fun riding on board with the drivers.

It's something that Jari does on the replay, rather than something Warren is doing at the time. I have no idea how he does these shots though :wink2:

RDHGP S3 - Race 7 @ Magny-Cours GP - 30th July 2009

Welcome to Round 7 of the RDHGP 2009

The RDHGP League staff welcomes you back to the penultimate event (I can’t believe it’s nearly over already) of the RDHGP Season3.

I’d like to take this opportunity to again than Ramon for the GTL lobby fix, that allowed us to run a normal event at Mid Ohio last time out.

We return from the Americas to Europe, specifically France and it’s Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, situated in almost the very centre of the country. Built in 1960 as a home for the prestigious L'école de pilotage Winfield racing school, it fell into disrepair in the early 1980’s until it’s purchase in 1989 by Regional Conseil de la Nièvre. It then hosted the French Grand Prix from 1991 – 2008.

RDHGP visits the longer (4.411km) GP layout this year, which despite the extra length from the shorter National layout, actually adds some complexity to the track. This will possibly allow the slightly nimbler cars a few tighter passages to close up to the big HP cars that will no doubt have stretched their legs down that long back.

Yet again, we have received no Official Incident Reports from Mid Ohio, admittedly we had a few missing drivers in America, but still there was fun to be had right the way throughout the pack. I would like to remind everyone (and I do mean everyone) to remember to do your allocations for each race. RD has a policy that people habitually not allocating and not showing up for League races are banned from participating in further leagues – Please don’t let that happen to you. It takes seconds to do your allocation, so why place your future participation in the balance when it’s so simple to avoid?

Circuit Notes

Magny-Cours has one of the longest “straights” in the RDHGP season, ended by - off the top of my head – the tightest corner in the RDHGP season – Adelaide hairpin. There will be some slipsteaming and late braking shenanigans in Adelaide which promise to give us some very entertaining racing. And then, once you think “phew, I survived that”, it throws you into the tricky Club circuit section before the blast down to the Lycee complex and that final, potentially lap- and car-wrecking chicane into the S/F straight.

The Race Director has some notes for drivers. Please see the track map above for location of Race Direction note:-

Magny-Cours will be familiar to all drivers, but there are still some tricky areas that the staff would like to take time to mention:
  • Grande Courbe has a slightly blind entrance and extremely unforgiving gravel on the outside. Luckily it is unlikely to throw any unfortunate drivers across the road, but the Race Director would ask that any recovering drivers takes care when rejoining the track.
  • The same care is asked when rejoining the track after any excursions on the outside of Estoril.
  • Nurburgring chicane allows itself to be attacked, but constant off track excursions will result in time penalties.
  • The final chicane can also be attacked, although there is a strict cut warning in place, but more importantly, it is surrounded by close walls, and impacts here can cause stricken cars to be thrown across the track into following drivers paths.
Incidents, Investigations and Penalties

As mentioned above there were no Incidents reported after Round 6.

Please remember, the League staff will only review incidents if they are reported to them, on an Incident Report form, with a video attached wherever possible.

No report = no review.

Please try and remember the incident reporting guidelines: review, 24 hour cool off, review again. Only after following the above process, and if you are convinced you still need to report it, should you let the League staff know. Please give as much information as possible during the report (time of incident, drivers involved etc.)

Liveries

You have chosen your car and livery already, and you must only drive your chosen car at any time during an RDHGP event. We are using the default liveries only in RDHGP.

Competitors Summary

Attached to this briefing, you will find the summary for all competitors that have registered for this league. This will show their name, nationality, vehicle choice, number and livery. This is for reference only and will not change to reflect performance or attendance.

We have had two official withdrawals from the League:-

Andrew Evans - 453 – Austin Healey 3000
Yoeri Gijsen – 450 – Austin Healey 3000

We have had another driver joining the League:-

Mark A. Warmington – 471 – Austin Healey 3000

GPCOS will be the tool for defining attendance and record keeping.

The Final Word

Thanks for reading this far, let's continue with the generally good spirit of the RDHGP as it remains a great (and easy) series to administer, and good fun for me to run in, thanks to the quality of the competitors.

Magny Magny Cours...

Just drove F1 there. Gonna need to reinvent all my brake points... From superfast to fast.

Could become a great race.

I have no time to practice either(I only practice in the actual practice section, Have done that so far in the League)

This is the difference between us Ben. I have to practice LOT, if I want to run competitve laptimes. We'll see it tomorrow. It would be nice to keep up with you or with Shelby Peter, maybe overtake you. And there will be David and Jari (the secret ace). So... Hope we have a really good racing night. No pressure on me.
