The waiting's nearly over folks. After two long years in the making, the glorious Power & Glory v3.1 mod for GTR 2 is getting a new update!

V3.2 is due to land before the end of 2015 and contains some nice little treats for those with a mind to race big old classic cars with clunky H-pattern gearboxes around some of the finest circuits ever dreamt up by man (that's right, tracks used to be cool before Hermann Tilke started making them).

According to the developers version 3.2 promises a host of improvements that include completely revised physics and updated graphics for all the Ford GT40 variants. In addition we welcome the new arrival of the 1969 IGFA German Racing Team GT40.

Completely revised physics for all the Porsche 906 variants. The graphics update for this car is limited to 4 different sets of tyre models replacing the single GTL model used before. An example is shown below.

Work is also ongoing with regards to a more minor update to the Alpine A110 model, to include re-introduction of back fire effects, physics changes and graphical updates. Additional data acquired by the group since version 3.1 has led to other tweaks to the performance and handling to bring these exquisite vehicles closer to their real life counterparts.

Continuing the tradition of outstanding technical assistance on this mod the team are releasing a series of user manuals explaining the changes to the GT40 and 906 cars help with the set-up options for that vehicle.

For those of you not yet familiar with the Power & Glory Mod (how dare you ;)) here's a little background info:

In 2005 Simbin Studios (now Sector 3 Studios, creators of RaceRoom Racing Experience) released their classic (literally) racing sim GT Legends based on the FIA Historic racing championship.

Shortly after release along came a talented team of modders under the title of GT Legends Workshop to start a project to create real seasons from the 60's and 70's using the base content models provided in GT Legends. So Power & Glory (P&G) was born. Spreading over many updates, and benefiting from a huge quantity of user created additional mods to compliment the base content contained in P&G (such as period tracks, liveries and additional cars) the mod took on a life of its own and now stands up against many commercial releases in both quality, presentation and quantity.

Users should be aware that the P&G mod will require a copy of Simbins GTR2 to install on your PC (P&G uses GTR2's base game files and installs as a totally standalone mod).

It is understood that the new update will be available as both a patch from v3.1 and as a complete V3.2 install.

Visit the P&G development blog for download options.

I'm sure those of us who know and love previous versions will be excited about this update (I sure am) but equally important I hope this brings P&G to the attention of sim racers the world over who might have missed this little classic first time round. Yes the base game was released a fair while ago, but seriously folks, this is one super epic piece of sim racing goodness you just cant be without.

Let us know in the comments below if you are looking forward to this update, and why not share some of your favourite moments from P&G battles past?

Favourite moment for me - Alan Mann Lotus Cortina @ Oulton Park racing against a pack of huge Mustangs, Galaxie's and Falcon's whilst dodging around those mighty mini's and Fiats.... epic. So very, very epic.

I would like to complain to my parents though. I was born far far too late. Why couldn't they have me in the early 50's (and give me talent behind the wheel) so I could race these things in period?]

Alternatively, I would like to complain to my employer. What cant they pay me stack loads of cash so I can buy one of these now and go race in historic's :roflmao:

Come on guys.. have racing licence, will travel. Anyone fancy lending me one for a weekend? You can borrow my Passat? :D

If you hadn't noticed, I REALLY like old cars

  3. This was one of the most fun I've ever had racing online. I'm not the biggest fan of old racecars and I could never quite figure out the Porsches (I recall spinning out of the lead in two races with them :D ) but it is one of the finest mods ever released for any racing sim and I urge every simracer to have a crack at it. The attention to detail, the quality of the work is simply top notch.

The guys over at NGR are still running races with it every now and then and the grids definitely need more people so if you do enjoy it, join up. IIRC all you need is the mod and the track that you can find in the thread for the race.

  4. Wow, I must be totally out of the loop because I had no idea this was even in the works - awesome!!!

I love P&G! It's the only mod I've ever driven that comes close to touching HistorX for depth/quality.

  9. Amazing mod, really. Sadly though it refers to a community that has moved altogether to much newer sims where turning back is not really an option. Sure, most of us will install and try, but it's a pity such an epic project to go waste in a few offline laps. Interestingly though,gtr2 is compatible with my new gs105 seat, so the lack of online will be somehow balanced. I should also note how amazing I find that there is a really active racing /modding community on the Web still for gt legends. That means that gaming studios should really try and cover people's love for classics on modern titles. It's not that they completely neglect it, it's just that they don't really focus on planning any big complete project.

Not really. None of the next-gen sims are as complete a package as GTR2 is.

"lack of online will be somehow balanced"
There are races hosted by NGR that are free for everyone to enter every week or two. If you meant classic public racing, there's almost none for any sim, everyone's spread out across multiple titles and the griefers are up to their usual stuff.

  13. I surely agree that modern sims are nowhere near the content of GTR2 . It has so many years in its back. It's just that people move on. The only really old stable sim is RBR , and rally simmers really eager for a decent modern title to take the lead eventually.
Don't get me wrong , I have all the old titles in my collection. Installing them from time to time to pay my tribute.

Didn't know they kept the mod alive. Thanx for that!

Been away from sim racing for 7 years until this year but I used to adore gtl. Online was fantastic. Gonna have to dig out my copy out of the garage and get this bad boy installed again

Have you got the DirectX9 update that Win7 uses for running GTR2? And is it a clean install?
