rF2 GT3 Power Pack Update.jpg

Studio 397 have deployed a first update to the recently released GT3 Power Pack that brings some new features and improved performance in game.

The new update comes just seven days after the very first rFactor 2 paid DLC was released to the public via the Steam network, and impacts all five cars of this latest GT3 themed DLC offering for rFactor 2.

The main focus of the update would around improving the framerate hit when using these cars in comparison to older content, however Studio 397 have managed to sneak in a few nice updates and improvements to the cars alongside this much requested FPS boost.

Notable for the improved damage model that came as part of an update alongside the DLC drop, the developers have put in some further work to refine the sensitivity to contact with other cars and their surroundings, hopefully bringing the reaction of the latest damage model closer to where the studio feels is appropriate in what is a very much improved aspect of the simulation.

Other notable changes include some new animation around backfires for all five cars and other visual tweaks, which can be read in the changelog below:

McLaren 650S GT3 2017 v1.79
  • Reworked tire and rim blur animation.
  • New backfire animation.
  • Fixed spokes sorting in front of debris/smoke.

Only recently I discovered I was playing the new DX11 beta with DX9 graphics, since I forgot to erase the shader folder....LOL shame on me :D
I'm going to wait for some kind of sales before buying this GT3 pack.
How's this pack compared to the other rF2 GT3 mod available?

Yes, pleased that S397 are releasing updates for there new GT3 cars...really enjoying the GT3 cars at the moment, so hopefully I can load the other GT3 cars from the pack to race against as my PC performance was horrible...up till now I was just loading the Enduracers car mods for added company while racing one of the rF2 GT3 cars....keep up the great work S397.

Please report on the degree of improvement after the update!

Zandvoort would be nice if it got out of beta state. Running shadow patterns, jagged white lines, semi-transparent trees and lack of any light reflections are ruining it a bit for me. @Richard Hessels are you still working on the track or is someone else assigned to it? I might have a look at fixing some of these things myself if it's not receiving further updates.

None of those things relate to beta, except possibly the lack of reflections. They are in all rF2 tracks.

You can remake basic vmods in a few minutes
Gives you the chance to change or update other content in the vmod, ie: skins, track layouts, etc.

Remember any vmods contain old workshop or unsubscribed content will remain installed and run even though the actual rfcmp has already been deleted

If you want to keep old versions you can add a copy from the cache to a secondary Package folders before you uninstall

Shouldn't be necessary. We put up the all the downside of Steam--the one thing it should bring is seamless and effort-free updating of official content. What other Steam title doesn't do that?

I suppose for more realistic damage modelling the car needs to split and fall apart (in the case of carbon fibre).

The difficulty in that is it would probably require more complex models, and therefore a serious performance hit.

I would be happy with marks, scuffs, and then pieces like dive planes coming away. That would do nicely.

However I have tried the latest release and it's a good performance improvement and I do really like the pack

For a bit of fun I ran the URD mod with LMP1, LMP2, GTE and these GT3 cars. A great fun race for 40 minutes.

Agreed though more skins would be nice, but that's in the works as I think Studio397 mentioned.

If someone on here does the livery they don't have to be 100% perfect. If a studio does it then they would have to work on them until the team, manufacturer is happy so it takes time. I assume that's the issue but I could be wrong. It does take time as well (believe me...:D)

Working for a large corporate company I know just how fussy they are on logo's placement, correct corporate colours, etc.:)

How's this pack compared to the other rF2 GT3 mod available?

Personally, I put S397 GT3's ahead of any mod in terms of physics/fun, with Simtek and Apex not far behind and URD EGTs and Petra's Blancpain at the back but also close.
The best part is you can race them all together. I was testing S397 cars yesterday against Apex, Simtek and Blancpain cars at Nola, all with similar lap times.

Can anyone tell me what happens if you purchased the McLaren already? Seems its trying to charge me again for it within the DLC pack, seems a bit unfair to me and even for the sake a £3 totally pointless as i already have the car.

You cant buy the McLaren first and then the pack without the McLaren. The pack is all cars so if you bought the McLaren separately then you have to pay for it again (3€ basically a bag of chips/crisps). :) I think most people bought the pack instantly. Felt like a good deal. With rF2 i dont care if i dont know what cars are coming. They will be awesome anyway hehe.

Any anecdotal reports on FPS improvements?
Minimal. Basically, if you've had to turn down opponent details already, then you won't see any significant change. If you had borderline fps at Full opponent details before the update, then you might see as much as a 10% gain that could turn borderline fps into more stable fps.

If you can tolerate the first lap or two, then you'll find the fps acceptable until the cars bunch up again.

I don't think it's unfair, you missed the opportunity to get the bundle deal. Same thing happens with consumer products. Lets say you go to Walmart and buy 2 cokes, then you come back and buy a 6 pack....you can't ask them to take out 2 of them and charge you just for 4 because you previously bought 2. :whistling:
