Gsync microstuttering

I'm having issues with microstuttering in AC running with Gsync. I'm getting framerates between 80-120, so that shouldn't be an issue. The frametimes are also consistent.

But the game is not entirely smooth, it judders. It is most visible when looking towards the horizon when doing an even, smooth turn. The scenery should move smoothly, but it doesn't. It jerks and judders.

Tried many graphics settings, from high to low, but even extreme framerates will not solve it.

Another strange thing is, when I enable vsync, which should be enabled when running Gsync, the game always starts at a locked 59.8 fps. It then "unlocks" itself after some seconds of driving. This also happens sometimes during the game, most often if the framerate drops below 80 - it suddenly locks itself to 59.8 fps again. Disabling vsync gets rid of this. But it shouldn't act this way, and I'm not interested in starting all races at 60 fps...

I'm running a 2070 Super. The optimal settings should be Gsync+vsync enabled, and fps cap at 116 fps (120 hz monitor). But it just doesn't work.

I have tried almost every possible setting, but I can't get rid of this. I have googled widely, but no solution. Any ideas?

Ok, so setting a 100 fps cap actually doesn't look too bad, for some reason I found on the interwebs. But it still isn't perfect, and I shouldn't really need 100 fps to run smoothly. Capping at 90 or 80 or anything else than 100 does not look equally smooth.

I then tried disabling Gsync entirely, to try and find the problem.

60 Hz vsync, which for all purposes should look good enough, looks more like 30 fps.
120 Hz vsync looks good, but I can't keep >120 fps all the time, and when the fps drops, it does NOT look good, for obvious reasons.

All other games I play (DR2, R3E etc.) can use pretty much any decent settings and run smoothly (60 Hz vsync, Gsync with framecap etc.). AC just doesn't do this.

I'm thinking, if I can't get it running smoothly at 60 Hz vsync, something is clearly wrong. But what? I don't know what more to try here.
