Harvey takes 2nd career win
The young Brit won the French GP, ahead of Pablo Diehl and Milos Ancevski. Having started from 5th, he passed teammate Laskey at the start, and moved up to 2nd during the first stops by staying out longest of the front runners. When Utzer retired with an oil leak soon after, he took the lead, and except for a short period during the 2nd stops he kept it until the end. Diehl had dropped behind Engberink at the start, and was running in that position for most parts, until the Dutchman retired with a puncture shortly after the 2nd stops. Ancevski had dropped behind Reed at the start, but with quick stops he gained places each time, to finish 3rd in the end. He profited from Laskey's misfortune, as the Toyota driver had to make an unscheduled stop with only a few laps to go, while running in 3rd position.
Quick pitstops proved to be crucial, as there wasn't much on-track overtaking. The Minardis of Rinneaho and Goddard took 4th and 5th, working through the field during the stops in a similar way to Ancevski. Buurlage finished 6th ahead of Laad, Andy Black took the final point for 8th place.
The Renaults had a disastrous home GP. Martins retired early on with a gearbox failure while running in 5th. Utzer was controlling the race at the front, enjoying a gap of more than 5 seconds over 2nd for most of the time. But a few laps after retaking first from Harvey after his stop, an oil leak ended his race. Engberink and Reed were the other retirements, the former dropping out with a puncture after his 2nd stop, while driving in 2nd place. Reed retired with an engine failure while running in 6th place.

FIA Press Conference
@Millsy24: While your pace has been decent all season, this result surely must have been a big surprise?
@Diehl: Again only just missing out on the win, but I guess you won't complain too much seeing how good the season's going so far?
@Milos: Another podium for you, will we soon see a McLaren driver on the top step again, for the first time since 2000?
