BRM has bought multiple race winner Jacques Villeneuve from Prost, to partner Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the 2000 F1 season. The Canadian follows in his father Gilles' footsteps, who drove for the team from '86 to '87. Hopes are high that this signing will help the British team to close the gap to the top teams.

As part of the deal, young Italian Giancarlo Fisichella will leave the team after 2 seasons, and move to Prost.
