F1 2011 Catalunya - Spain (Dry)

F1 2011 The Game (Codemasters)
Time Trial setups are different to race setups, as it does not adhere to the fact there is no DRS throughout the lap, tyre wear, fuel simulation etc.

If you try a time trial setup in a race, you need to change many things, the wings, the gears, the brakes, the anti roll bars and so on.

Notes
This setup was made in my 2nd season with Williams in Career, so I don't know how much better the car is than the first season in regards to times.

Driving with no assists on Expert I managed a 1:18.963 on Options in Q2. Got pole in Q3 but on my fastest lap I ran out of fuel just at the final chicane and still got a 1:19.204 on that lap, so at least low 1:18s are possible with this setup in Qualifying. My fastest race lap was a 1:20.226 on Primes (I think I put 7th gear down to 323kph for the race).

Without assists, running High - Standard brakes here it's important to ensure you're braking in a straight line as this setup isn't very forgiving under braking, if you keep locking up try putting it down to Medium.
The setup is pretty stable and you should be able to take Turns 3, 9 and 16 (final turn) full throttle.

It certainly helps you stay aggressive in the turns with less sliding which means faster turns and less tyre wear.
But then don't you give up resposniveness
I wish the devs would have included more accurate descriptions for each adjustment. For example they state that more rear camber (I think) will give you "....more stability in turns but less grip".

. . . . . . . . :confused
More stability AND less grip, thank you SO much for the help there mates.Lol

There is a difference in : good ' turn in' off the car ( corner entry), good midcorner grip and corner exit. When bram says softer front ABR and springs mean better turn in, i think ( i hope) he means better grip midcorner during long corners f.e. Pouhon double left corner in spa ( you will need to adjust the front camber angle aswell. If you need a quick responsive front of the car or a good turn in into the cornerentry ( f.e. Tracks like melbourne or singapore with lots of kind of 90° corners and thus short midcorner segment) then you need stiffer front ABR and front spring and thus less negative camber. This is how i understand it, but i could be wrong.
Good turn in on corner entry, good responsivness generally requires stiffer front abr and springs......... Please correct me if i am wrong bram

I took down around 9 dry setups from this thread, tested extensively in Practice 1 and arrived at a setup I was comfortable with. I hate understeer, but 8-9 (mild understeer) is necessary because Williams lacks rear downforce, tail slides out immediately if you use balanced / oversteer wing. Wings are high, agreed, but you'll make up enough time is S2/S3 to be out of reach by the time you reach the main straight.
I always maintain braking at 48-52, so I can steer comfortably under braking.
I initially set ARB to 1-11, but turn-in was very vague - I had no idea where I'd end up. Setting it to 4-11 made things better.
F-R Ride Height to 1-1 for this track. Max downforce at any cost. I set it to 1-2 once to extract a little oversteer, didn't really do any good for stability. I consider it cheating to set springs at 11-11, so I'll settle for 10-10. I like the car stiffly sprung.
Gear ratios are fudged from a Williams setup posted earlier, which Gear 7 upped one notch. Don't want to be hitting the limiter at Mix 3 in qualifying.
I use Lean fuel mix in P1/P2, Standard in P3/Q1/Q2 and Rich in Q3.
I initially set Cambers to -3.5/-1.5, but increased to -3.3/-1.3 for additional traction. Toe at 0.07/0.26 for increased responsiveness.
* On my 1.17:621 lap I got a tug down the main straight from a Red Bull, I'd consider my time ~1.17:9 to discount that effect. I did come across some traffic at the end of S2, I had to outbrake two cars into the hairpin. Don't think it affected my time though.
* I still have some issues negotiating Turn 1/Turn 2 - can't get the car to react quickly enough. Increased toe isn't really helping. Advice would be appreciated.
