Heading into the third round of the 2024 DTM Esports Pro championship, Falken driver Tim Jarschel had won half the races so far, and never been off the podium.

However, heading into the spring race at a virtual Lausitzring, the championship leader qualified in seventh place, with an Audi one-two-three at the front – Jeffrey Rietveld, Enzo Bonito and Dominik Blajer securing the top positions.

Following the completion of these two races, the halfway mark would be reached in the quest for a share of €50,000 in RaceRoom’s premier series.

Race 1

Off the banking and into the rolling start, 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual winner Rietveld held the lead, but a fast-starting Gianmarco Fiduci nosed his Veloce BMW up into second place ahead of Bonito.

Blajer would drop back, surviving a squeeze from Jarschel on one side and Jakub Brzezinski on the other at the first corner. Three Porsches further back wouldn’t be so lucky, Alessandro Ottaviani, Isaac Price and Nikodem Wisniewski tripping over each other.

That set the template for the rest of the 20-minute encounter, with the focus on Fiduci in a Team Redline sandwich – one eye on Bonito behind, another on Rietveld ahead. Ultimately, the positions remained the same.

Race 2

Onto the longer, 30-minute, second race of the evening, and this time Wisniewski snagged pole position – clearly getting over the first race drama immediately. Jarschel continued his fine run with second, ahead of the first race winner Rietveld and his Redline team-mates Siggy and Bonito.

This time, the pinch at the first corner claimed Fiduci, as the Italian initially leapt up to third, but was soon facing the wrong way alongside Bonito and Blajer.

Championship leader Jarschel was caught in the middle, but escaped and then went around the outside of both Siggy and Ottaviani at the third corner to reach the podium placings.

Ottaviani would come to blows soon after the start at Turn 8, dropping down the order, while coming onto the banking Leonard Krippner and Jack Keithley came together, in turn involving leading Ferrari Gergő Báldi. Krippner and Báldi would spear across the pitlane entry grass, and also fall backwards.

With nearly a third of the race complete, there was a flood of GT3 machinery heading to the pitlane, this time Báldi contacting the barrier upon approach and receiving a speeding penalty. Meanwhile, fellow 296 driver, Isaac Gillissen ended up facing the wrong way at Turn 7.

At the pointy end, Wisniewski dominated ahead of Rietveld, with Siggy desperately trying to overtake fellow title protagonist Jarschel for third, but to no avail as the chequered flag dropped.

Jarschel keeps a notable points lead at halfway, with the next round on 5th April at Raceroom’s Sachsenring recreation.
