RaceRoom’s recreation of the Red Bull Ring was the venue for the fifth DTM Esports Pro round, with Falken’s Tim Jarschel sitting 43 points ahead of G2’s Nikodem Wisniewski and then 47 and 53 ahead of Redline’s Jeffrey Rietveld and Kevin Siggy respectively.

Supported by the real-world DTM series, the competition offers a total prize pool worth €50,000. As ever, there would be two qualifying sessions to set the grid for two races; a 20-minute and a 30-minute.

Race 1

The championship leader Jarschel was once again on the front row but ultimately ousted for pole position by title rival Wisniewski. A pair of Redline Audis lined up behind, with Enzo Bonito third and Siggy fourth. Rietveld started on the last row in 31st place, an alleged technical issue to blame.

At the rolling start, Bonito moved up to second. Otherwise, the main battle was for fourth, with Siggy defending from Jakub Brzezinski and leading BMW Marko Pejic. The Audi driver would eventually break free, however, and then reach the back of Jarschel with just over five minutes remaining.

That put the points-leading Porsche in a precarious Redline sandwich. Siggy made slight contact with Jarschel at Remus, and then into Schlossgold, with Bonito defending, went around the outside of both to steal second.

With the Redline drivers creating somewhat of a train, Wisniewski disappeared to win a second race in a row.

Race 2

On to the longer, second, race of the event and Jarschel was back on top – in qualifying at least. Pole position by a scant 0.7s ahead of Wisniewski, with 2023 ESL R1 Spring Season champion Marcell Csincsik in third. Bonito and Siggy lined up fourth and fifth.

Once again, Wisniewski took the lead at the first corner and never looked back.

Meanwhile, in fifth, Jarschel’s team-mate Leonard Krippner was trying to play the team game, dicing with Siggy and Rietveld. After two laps of defensive driving, eventually, the Audis would make it through.

Towards the end of the race, Jarschel had to cover both Csincsik and 2018 eRace of Champions victor Bonito but managed to hold them off to claim second.

Wisniewski dominated, however, to claim his and G2’s second win of the event and keep his championship aspirations alive.

The final round of the 2024 DTM Esports Pro championship is on 19th April at a virtual Hockenheimring.
