rFactor 2: August Content Update Includes Porsche Cup Liveries

Things had recently gotten quiet regarding rFactor 2 while developer Studio 397 is hard at work with Le Mans Ultimate. rF2 has not been abandoned, however: The August update brings new liveries, visual improvements and various smaller changes to the sim. More is to come, too.

It may not be a big update, but the official liveries of the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain is still a nice addition for more immersion when racing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). The series is about to enter the second half of its season at Knockhill this weekend before heading to Donington, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

Staying with the British racing scene, the BTCC cars in rF2 are also subject to change regarding their brake adjustments and their AI, as well as a tire update. To ensure better competition, their Balance of Performance has been adjusted, focusing on FWD cars in particular. GTE and GT3 vehicles are also among the vehicles that have received slight BoP changes.

Some of the simulation's circuits have received a touch-up regarding their visuals, notably Toban Raceway Park, NOLA Motorsports Park, Mills Metro and Atlanta Motorsports Park. All of them except for NOLA have also seen improved track limit detection for AI drivers.

You can find the full changelog to find out all the details of the update below. While this is a small update, Studio 397 promises to have "more coming your way soon..." in the official update post on their website.

Yeah predictable, working on Le Mans now so no much time for rf2. The Le Mans content better make it to rf2 at some point.... And I hope that they are at least working on a DLC track for rf2 or something.

The updates in the AI department are really good, some combos that were undrivable are now a total blast.
The only thing that just refuses to work is F1 Eve 68 at Spa 66.
I guess the track is just too psychotic.

It's mindblowing that a 12 year old sim is getting regular updates.
When it gets abandoned, it will go down as one of the all time greats.

Maybe, other MG projects actually help rF2 to finally get to another lever. From Multiplayer, to contracts with tyre manufacturers.

Content quality vs quantity and overall DLC experience is a mess, still.

I wish RaceDepartment had a "2023 guide / intro" to rF2 - with minimal or the best (LFM edition) tracks and cars. Only up-to-date tracks and cars (tyres and visuals), so people won't waste time and mood on outdated stuff.

P.S. Studio397 - please switch to Steam's DLC system, so people won't get frustrated on options or blockers of double-payment for items they already got. Most likely it will boost sales.

A 2023 guide would be a great idea actually - there's so much information out there in various forms about rF2 it can be quite mind boggling to take it all in - so much has changed over the last year that many existing posts or guides are no longer valid.

And, this is not directed at you, but for anyone else reading (as there is a lot of misleading information spewed out across the internet) :

Nascar: Ignition - was developed by some Russian development team (now obsolete I believe).
Was developed by a multitude of teams within MSG, see Marcels comment further below.

Le Mans Ultimate - is being developed by S397 based heavily on rF2 core (the important thing to note here is that it is based on the core code. S397 hands are tied when it comes to rF2 for the most part with sticking to big chunks of the code base, as a simple change code could break various existing mods - hence why some persistent bugs or annoyances are still there years after launch. With LMU, their hands are no longer tied - they can do what they want, especially, as I think what will happen, it will not allow mods - that's IMO of course. They of course have to deliver - that's what we all wait for...).

Future Indycar Game - is being developed by the team that developed KartKraft I believe.

Future BTCC Game - not sure quite what is happening on this one...

rFactor 2 - IMO has come on leaps and bounds in the last year, improving existing content is much needed and very welcome. The AI improvements are excellent (note, if you have modified your player.json in any way in the past, it is recommended to start with a fresh player.json file as it contains new settings in which the AI use. You can rename it, start the game, and it will create a new player.json file - you can then copy over any settings you had previously - WinMerge is a great program for highlighting differences between files).

I hope for good things for all sims - others just want to watch the world burn (apart from their sim of choice obviously :)

If I have got anything factually incorrect please correct me - apologies in advance.

Anyway have a great day

The in-game store shows which content you don’t own and which one you already own. The only thing missing is that when buying packs, the content you already have should be discounted.

I see a valuable update, especially for the older tracks like Toban and Mills. And it costs me: N o t h i n g !
I only fear, that some of the addon skins will not work anymore, like always. And only to find out, what works, what not and to correct these is a very painful job. And i say that not only because i like additional skins, but i think it`s necessary because rf2´s does a poor job on liveries for GT3 and GTE.

the steam item store doesnt allow it and probably never will have that feature

Then don't enable steam overlay, why people do this for serious sims I have no idea.

Why should you get a discount when you were too cheap to buy the pack the first time ?

Does any other sim give you discounts on DLC ? like Racroom ? Do i get a discount buying AMS2 season pack because of packs I already brought ? No Then why should rF2 ? You people.

While I dont really use it anymore, I always thought mills and toban were great fantasy tracks. So much online fun there back with rf1. Might load it up to see what its looking like in vr.

Yes I think Raceroom does do this if you own some cars from a pack.

Also I think Steam is capable of doing something like this with its "packs".

This is not a huge deal for me though.

My bad, I was thinking how I paid for some of Raceroom content up to 3 times
ie: brought 7500 points 3 times because it was cheaper way of getting everything
you are missing. I would need another now ( so 4 times ) to get all current content ...... :coffee:

pCars AC ACC never even offered single cars did they but somehow it's a negative for rF2

Actually yes, RaceRoom does exactly that. If you own part of a pack, the pack gets discounted. For example, I own the Mazda from the Drivers Pack so it would only cost me €7 to buy the rest of the pack instead of the usual €10

They also have discount for owning similar content in other classes/packs. As an example. I own a few of the GT3 cars in either the ADAC or generic GT3 classes so because the DTM 2021 versions would essentially just be skinpacks for me, those cars only cost €0.29 instead of the usual €4. That also affects the price of the associated pack so even though I only own one of the DTM versions of the cars in the pack, because I own other versions of some of the other cars the full pack would only cost me €6.50 instead of the usual €13

Don't get me wrong, RaceRoom's overly complicated pricing model is absolutely dreadful and I generally prefer the (admittedly flawed) way rF2 does it but that is one thing RaceRoom does get right that I'd love to see in rF2 because not having it has actively stopped me from buying content I gladly would otherwise

For the first time in a long time I actually had a little bit of disposable income for the latest Steam sale and I was hoping to buy the Endurance Pack but it didn't go on sale so it was out of my budget which was unfortunate but it happens so I decided to buy some of the cars individually and hopefully buy the rest of the pack another time

That's always going to end up costing more than just buying the pack when I could afford it but because there isn't a discount for owning part of a pack I ended up buying far less than I was planning to because when I can eventually buy the full pack I'd end up paying the same price to get less content

Ironically the money I was hoping to spend on rF2 went to RaceRoom for exactly this reason, I ended up buying the more interesting parts of a couple of packs that I wanted but couldn't afford now because I'll get a discount when I can complete the pack later
