Hy Russel,

is there a road map when the "interesting features" like Track Walk and Driving Instructor will be availible for Asseto Corsa (without Competetione??)

Also good to read that it will work without satelite maps as I like "unusual tracks" and "not so mainstream cars"

MFG Carsten

I like the concept of driving assistant!
Will try it!

But don‘t like having to pay for updates.

Maybe ok for competitive people but not good/ too expensive for casual sim racers who are not chasing last 10th of seconds but just want to enjoy fast driving and have to pay for updates.

Assetto Corsa should be relatively soon. This latest update makes it possible for it to work with any sim. We are currently testing RaceRoom. Then the next tow on our list are rF2 and Assetto Corsa.

The Driving Instructor is not just for gaining the last 10th. If you are a driver that is a couple of seconds off the pace, (or more) then the Instructor is designed to help you maximize your potential.

And the Track Walk is there to help you get up to speed faster before you even turn a lap.

Of course at the end of the day the decision is yours on if these features are something that would help you.

Hey, whenever I try to download a lap from the server, Z1 Analyser freezes and the lap does not download. I have to close it. Local laps are fine.

I had this problem once before and can't recall how I fixed it. Any suggestions?

You could try setting debug mode to Lap Download. Then try to download a lap. Afterwards check the latest log file from documents/z1analyzer/logs. That might give some clues as to what is happening.

Version 2023.1 of the Z1 Dashboard is now available!

This version introduces our new on-board driving instructor. This instructor will talk to you as you drive round the track providing feedback on the track and on how you are taking turns and how you can improve. It is like having a real instructor sitting next to you in the car. You can even create your own voice packs to use with the instructor.

In addition to this version supports the Vocore 6.8" screens and all the new features in the Z1 Designer.

The new on-board Driving Instructor provides real-time spoken feedback on how to improve as you drive the track.

The new Driving Instructor allow for customization including three different levels of advice.

New users can get the demo here:

Existing users can get the update here:
https://z1simwheel.com/dashboard/MyDashboard.cfm

Here is the full list of release notes:
* The Driving Instructor is now available to ride along with you in the car. The instructor will speak to you as you go around the track like a real-world instructor would do, providing advice on the turns and how to improve your time through them. This feature requires a current track or pro license. Currently it is only compatible with iRacing and Assetto Corsa Competizione.

* There is a new settings tab, Driving Instructor, which allows you to set the various option for the instructor.

* You can choose the instructor who will ride along with you. Currently there is only one instructor available. We will be adding more in the future.

* Users can create their own instructor packs. An instructor pack consists of a folder placed in the documents/z1dashboard/voices folder. Look at the folder documents/z1dashboard/voices/greg as an example. This folder contains an xml file called 'voice'. When creating your own instructor you would edit this file to reflect your instructor. When doing so it is important to set the 'id' file to be blank. Then you would need to provide recordings in mp3 format for each of the files located in the folder. Again see the documents/z1dashboard/voices/greg folder for the required mp3 files.

* Customized instructor voice packs can be distributed to other if you like. All that is required for install an instructor pack is to place the folder containing the voice.xml file and the mp3 files into the documents/z1dashboard/voices folder.

* By default the instructor only provides feedback during a practice session. To have it provide feedback during all sessions, uncheck the 'Only Provide Feedback During Practice' option.

* There are 3 levels of advice that can be given by the instructor - beginner, intermediate and advanced. By default the instructor is set to beginner. You should set this level based on your experience as a driver as it effects the advice given by the instructor.

* The instructor provides advice at each level (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) for a specified number of laps before advancing its advice to the next level. By default this is 3 laps. You can change this in the settings dialog.

* You can select the speakers used for the instructor voice in the settings dialog, Driving Instructor tab.

* Added Water Pressure warning level to the Car tab in the Settings dialog. This is a car specific warning level. When the water pressure is under this level the water pressure warning will be triggered. Dashboards that implement the Water Pressure warning will then display the appropriate warning.

* Added support for the new Z1 Designer features.

* Support for Vocore 6.8" screens

Version 2023.1 of the Z1 Analyzer is now available. There are many new features and improvements in this version. Some of the highlights include:

The ability to create your own car models for use in the Driving Instructor. The car model is what is used to display the image of the car as it moves around the track. Note this is purely a visual image. It has no impact on the advice given by the Driving Instructor.

For the Track Walk - better playback options; improved navigation from turn to turn.
2023-1-TrackWalk.jpg

Custom trace legends: these let you easily see what each line in the custom trace represents.
2023-1-Legend.jpg

More mouse control customization: You can now set what the right mouse buttons does when interacting with the traces.

Existing users can get the update here:
https://z1simwheel.com/dashboard/MyDashboard.cfm

Here is the full list of release notes:
* The car model used in the Driving Instructor can now be edited. The car model is what is used to display the image of the car as it moves around the track. Note this is purely a visual image. It has no impact on the advice given by the Driving Instructor. There are several models that come with the Analyzer, and you can chose from them in the 'Car Model' drop down on the left side of the Driving Instructor under the 'Driving Advice' section.

* To edit or create a new car model select the Analysis->Edit Car Models menu option. This will display the currently available car models. Double click on a name to edit the model. Or right click and then choose an option from the popup menu. To create a new car model you will need a top down image of the car, along with various dimensions, such as the length and width, front and rear track, axle locations, and tire/wheel sizes.

* The car models are stored in individual folders within the documents/z1analyzer/carmodels folder. You can share a car model with others by giving them a copy of the appropriate folder, which they would then place in the documents/z1analyzer/carmodels folder on their computer.

* Various improvements to the Driving Instructor to improve performance.

* Added support for Codemasters F1 22.

* There is now an 'Always On Top' option for the Analyzer. This is located in the Display settings tab. Selecting this option will keep the Analyzer window on top of all other windows when running, with the exception of full screen windows.

* There are now options in the Control settings tab to specify what the mouse wheel does when the cursor is over a trace. You can specify the basic mouse wheel option and the control-mouse wheel option. By default the mouse wheel will zoom the trace in/out, and the control-mouse wheel will pan a zoomed trace left or right.

* You can now assign right mouse button drag, control right mouse button drag, shift right mouse button drag, and control-shift right mouse button drag to perform the the following options: zoom a trace, scrub a trace, shift the main lap, and move sectors. By default the right button options are not assigned to these functions. Use the Control settings tab to make the desired assignments.

* Driving Instructor: the turn advice will now remain displayed until you either click the Play icon to continue round the lap, click the Stop icon to halt playback, or select another turn. This allows you to move the map around and still see the turn's advice.

* Altitude, ABS Active and Traction Control Active have been added as a data channels. These can be shown in a standard trace or data tile, or used in a custom trace, math channel, scatter plot, or histogram.

* There is now an info icon that appears in the title bars of any custom traces. Clicking this icon toggles a legend for the custom trace. This legend will show what each line in the trace represents, along with the math formulas if appropriate.

* Track Walk: The Play/Stop button has been replaced by 5 buttons - play, pause, stop, step forward, step backward. This allows for greater control over the playback of a corner.

* Track Walk: A graphical representation of the suggested steering angle is now displayed inside the gear circle when running through a corner. The wheel is always displayed with straight ahead being up, regardless of the orientation of the car. You can turn this feature off under the Display settings tab.

* Track Walk: Improved the advice given on how to enter and exit the turn.

* Track Walk: When a corner is selected the information box now includes right and left arrow buttons in the header. These let you easily move to the next or previous turn.

* When opening laps, any of your laps that are considered to be partial laps will be marked as such in the list of available laps. A partial lap is one that doesn't finish at least 95% of the lap. You can choose to hide these laps by right clicking on the laps and unselecting the 'Show Partial Laps' option in the drop down menu.

* Maximum readable IBT file size has been increased from 1Gb to 4GB.

Version 2023.1 of the Z1 Designer is now available. This application lets you create your own dashboards or edit existing ones for use with the Z1 Dashboard.

Many New Widgets
2023-1-Widgets.jpg

You can download the Z1 Designer here:
https://z1simwheel.com/dashboard/demo.cfm

Here is the full list of release notes:
* There is now a Keywords text field in the Open Dashboard dialog. This will check the entered text against the names of the dashboards on your local computer. This will filter the results, showing only those dashboards whose names are an exact or partial match.

* Warnings: Water Pressure is now available as a warning.

* You can now assign a background color and stroke color to the bounding box of a data channel object.

* Widgets: Previous Lap Time has been added as widget. Unlike Last Lap Time which show the time of the lap just completed, this shows the time of the lap prior to the last one. So if you are on lap 10 this will show the lap time from lap 8.

* Widgets: Added 'My iRating Change'. This will display your iRating change based on your current position if you are in an iRacing race.

* Widgets: Added 'Current Sector', 'Current Sector Time', 'Sector Time'. The 'Sector Time' option lets you choose a specific sector to display (1-20). The time will be the last time recorded for that sector.

* Custom colors are now saved by default when you exit the Designer. You can turn this functionality off by going to the Colors tab in the settings dialog and unchecking the Save Custom Colors option.

* You can now remove a color from the list of custom colors, by right clicking on the custom colors in the Color Chooser Dialog, and selecting the 'Delete Color' option from the popup menu.

* Standings Tool: New options have been added: Delta gap to the overall leader; Class position change.

* Competitors Tool: There is now an option to have the object apply to only cars in your class. Check the 'Show Your Class Only' option to enable this. If this is not checked then the behavior is the same as in previous versions, where the entire field is used.

* Gauge Tool: Gauges can now rotate in a counter-clockwise direction as well as the standard clockwise direction. This option is set in the Dial Configuration section drop down using the Direction drop down.

* Widgets: The iRating SOF widget no longer includes the text 'SOF'. This brings it inline with the other widgets, all of which only show values.

* Graph Tool: Zones are now available for use with this tool. By default all graphs have one zone. You can add up to 4 zones to a graph. Zones allow you to have the graph fill up in an uneven manner. For example if the graph displayed RPM from 1,000 to 8,000, you could have two zones, with the first showing RPM under 4,000 in the first 25% of the graph, then the second zone could show RPM above 4,000 using the remaining 75% of the graph.

Hy Russel,

the problem with Z1Analyzer crashing when triing to load a lap has accured again.
The workaround you gave me last time does not work anymore.
It only happens when I try to load my own recorded laps, it works ok when opening downloaded laps.

Any idea how to fix this?
I really got used to work with telemtry so it would be a shame when this stopped working.

MFG Carsten

September is coming to a close. That means a new version of the Z1 software is about ready to see the light of day.

This release contains some of the biggest changes to the Z1 eco-system since version 4.0 came out many years ago. These changes are intended to make Z1 accessible to a wider audience and allow us to more easily and quickly get new features and fixes out.

If we are a little delayed with this release it is because we have to make sure everything is working properly on the new back end. We've purchased a new server over the past month to allow for a better user experience, especially when using the Driving Instructor, and it has been running extremely well.

Here's a peek at one of the changes. We loved the original logo, but it was time for a refresh.
