Williams F1 is hopeful that the upgrade package planned to be used at Barcelona will result in better results for the team.

Williams has been long plagued with poor results & unpredictability. This was seemingly turned around last year, when Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado won in Spain. However, 2013 has proved difficult for the Grove based team who have struggled to perform in the first two races. Maldonado has retired in both Melbourne, and Sepang; however his rookie teammate Valtteri Bottas has had better luck, but has only finished 14th & 11th respectively.

Mike Coughlan, Williams F1 Technical Director, explained how the team has a better & more precise understanding of the issues they have encountered. The three week break will hopefully give the 9-time constructors champs the time they need to remedy the situation.

"We feel we have a better understanding of where we are and the whole team has been working hard to improve our competitiveness going into the next few races." Coughlan explained.

"After a difficult two races we've been back at the factory going through the data to try to understand where we need to improve,"

"Ultimately we are looking at a significant upgrade for the Spanish Grand Prix."

2012 Barcelona race winner, Pastor Maldonado, acknowledged that the team must improve in order to return to it's spot in the mid table. Maldonado only managed to qualify 17th & 16th in Australia and Malaysia; and retired from both races.

"We haven't had the best start to the season and we need some time to improve our car to be solid in the points, but the whole team is working very hard so let's wait and see how we can adapt the car for this race," Maldonado said.
