Whats the differents between load offline or steam online when installing?

is steam online install the only way to play online.I don't want to be involved with steam.

Yes, unfortunately Steam is the only way to play online so you don't have a lot of choice. Other than that, I think the only difference between the two versions is that the Steam version has received more patches then the offline version.
