What's butchering my FPS?

Discussion in 'RaceRoom Racing Experience' started by Kjell Eilertsen, Jun 5, 2014.

  1. I was struggling with the visual settings today, it seemed like no matter what I changed (while trying to keep some fidelity) I was stuck at 40-55fps tops, so I decided to try the premade settings, and here's my results:
Medium: 145-155 FPS overall, dipping down towards 115 on the start/finish straight
High: 45-60 FPS dipping to about 37 on the straight.

So, what is causing this major drop in FPS between the two settings? Which settings should I perhaps focus on lowering in Custom to get somewhere in the ballpark of 70-80 steady FPS with dips no lower than 60?

    My system;
    GTX 780 3GB
    i5 2500k
    8GB 1600MHz RAM

go for custom , kill shadow split , set cubemaps to lowest.. also setting track detail lower takes out stuff that you dont need

  3. Thanks a ton Andi! Your advice did EXACTLY what I wanted, now everything is maxed out except cubemaps and shadow split, and I'm running ~80 fps most of the time and dips down to 57-60 at worst, perfect!

This is exactly my system spec too. The cubemap setting is the real killer. I hope that this can be optimised at some point. The simple cubemap looks a little lifeless and with a 780 I was hoping for better reflections!

  5. Haven't tried toggling it on and off to see the difference, but yeah running a 780 I was expecting to max out R3E without issues, pCars for instance looks a step up while maintaining as good or better FPS.

  6. I have the same GTX780 3 Gb card and it am still trying to figure out "cube map" what it is, what it does... I am happy if I can vsynch and have 60 fps.

  7. Cube maps are the reflections on the vehicles. The higher the setting the better looking they are but in all honesty, you can't really run more than simple cube maps in this game without the framerate taking a huge hit even on the most powerful PC's right now.

  8. I was trying the DTM MP tonight, tweaking my settings I failed to find cubemaps on there, is it called something else in DTM or is it not adjustable or whatever?

It´s under video settings -> custom settings.

  10. Have you checked in DTM and found it there? I found it nps in R3E, but not in DTM, but I might be going blind from age :p

  11. DTME has all the same graphics settings as R3E. As a matter of fact, they share the same settings for everything. Whatever settings you set in DTME or R3E get shared by both.

  15. Humm, dunno why this confused me so much this time around, I could not find the cubemaps settings, but I think I have now, it's the one called Reflection Type right?
I was looking for cubemaps and only found it when I "accidently" turned reflection type to the lowest setting (which is "simple cubemap").
