Reiza Studios, the developers behind the excellent AMS, have teased a new DLC pack coming to rF2 soon.. adding some of the excellent content from Automobilista to the Studio 397 simulation...

We had a sneaky teaser image reveal on social media in recent weeks that left many to wonder if the yet to be announced sequel to Automobilista would be based on the rFactor 2 game engine, and all the physics goodness that that implies, however it has now become clear that rather than relating to a totally new title, that teaser image was to do with an upcoming new DLC pack for rFactor 2.. featuring Reiza cars and circuits made famous by AMS in recent years.

No doubt visually upgraded to meet the new rFactor 2 standards, and taking advantage of the tech behind rF2 such as time of day, weather, real road, advanced tyre models and of course VR, this is one very interesting development and will act as a very positive boost for rF2 players looking for more quality content for the simulation.

No firm details have yet been revealed about what exactly will be contained in the upcoming DLC, although several images from the pack have been released giving us at least some idea of the types of things we can expect to see..

It is not thought that this DLC partnership will have any effect on plans for a sequel to AMS, as this is still underdevelopment at Reiza HQ.

rFactor 2 is available exclusively for PC from Steam now.

I think you'll find ISI own the Engine Code rights, S397 merely got an agreement to "carry on" the RF2 development as they see fit but the bare bones still belongs to ISI. Therefore Reiza - *if* they have licensed the engine (still not confirmed yet) - will be acquiring the Engine from ISI not S397.

Let me set the record straight on that, without going into too much detail. Studio 397 owns the IP of the entire rF2 codebase and can use it for anything related to racing simulation. ISI owns the IP of the rF1 codebase. So you can't acquire a license for the rF2 engine from ISI.

I doubted that Reiza has the knowledge/financial power to develop a new game-engine and like Sector 3 they are more content creators, that's what they do best. rF2 on the other hand is /was kind of the opposite and i suggested they should team up or even merge with a title like Raceroom to get a stronger contender to Kunos, SMS and iRacing. rF2 is about three times more popular than AMS according to Steam Spy atm and took some time to get there. Just alone to get VR to work with acceptable framerates took quite a while and hopping on a moving train seems more reasonable than building up something from scratch without enough financial backup. I doubt we see an AMS successor in the next years to come...:whistling:

well downside is that you end up with rF2 graphics engine .. which is something you more or less tolerate cause of good physics engine .. not a good strategy to attract new players to new sim ..

Sector 3 resp. old Simbin did create new graphics engine for R3E and there is no need to create engine .. just use one that exists .. like Kunos is doing with ACC, Simbin with GT3 and probably Sector3 with R3E .. than you attach your physics engine to it .. you dont need financial backup, only be prepared to pay 5% of your quarterly revenue ..

Basically all wrong!

Sector 3 did not create a new graphics engine they did write completely new shaders and did a great job of that.
Kunos did abandon the old graphics engine and are using Unreal for the next title ACC.

For me RF2 for the most looks great!
A dynamic scenery vs Static looking R3E, AC and AMS.
AMS even look the same all day long except Sunrise and Sunset which looks great.

If it was so easy to bolt a graphics engine to the old physics engine everybody would have done that.
Rf2 has got tremendous performance improvements over the last 6 months and while older tracks and cars are not always looking great they do work something they would not had they made a new graphics engine.

Well r3e is running on RendR graphic engine I don't know specific about that. Apparently created with SMS way back than ...
I did write that kunos is switching to existing engine (unreal) instead of creating one for ACC .. that is true .. not sure where I'm basically all wrong ... :)

And sure replacing physics in ut4 won't be job for one month but it can be done with as ACC shows

Must be like copy & paste to the new engine i guess:rolleyes::D and that's why i'm playing GTR3 since a while now:whistling:

Moving rF1 content, which AMS basically is, to rF2 seems a more reasonable task for a small team of former modders than creating a new engine or even just adapting to one from a DX9-title. Last seems for me like an impossible task without paying a team of people that knows how to do it. Simbin went to UK to actually get access of specialist who can do it and so far no news about GTR3, which release was planned this year for PC and consoles. And Simbin UK is basically Raceroom, so no need of content-creation.

AC did over 9 Mio. $ in revenue and seems they got the team to switch parts of their DX10 title to UT4, but this process is likely going on since far longer than some might think.

nobody says it is easy .. PhysX is deeply integrated into UT4 and it would be long process to make it happend (I dont expect few months job).. .. I`m fully aware that using rF2 makes way more sense .. we`re just discussing about what we would preffer .. at the end whatever Reiza does would be most likely superb and I`m gonna jump after it.

Sorry I was confused thought existing engines meant develop the existing engines not some other engine.
My guess is that Reiza needs money and maybe slowly getting to the same conclusions as leynad777 layed out above.
I supported the crowdfunding and will one day get the next game.
Not expecting that to happen anymore but who knows?

raceroom, assetto, iRacing, pCars2, F1 2017, Dirt4, Dirt rally, the crew 2, WRC 7, Forza horizon, Forza 7, TT Isle of man, Ride 2, (and i dont' talk about Race07 x1000 better and beautifull than rF2) all theses games make me happy.
rFactor 2 is the worst game in my life, i regret so much my money spent. I have no word to describe my feeling, or only one : awfull.
From 6:05.....

I see me asking 'why buy the F.Vee again in a different sim?, which already has something like the S.B.?'
FVee suspension, tires, and gearing are NOTHING like the Skip Barber. And the reasons to buy an FVee in rF2 is to have AI that block, can go around corners without slowing, and can handle banked curves.

Edit: And... can you play FVee with VR in AMS?
