Hello all.

As is customary, I will be starting to trail the next RDHCS season while still in the middle of the current one.

This time though, the process will be slightly accelerated, because we have a shorter break between seasons as we adjust to our timetable that avoids the peak Summer Holiday season and the Christmas/New Year break. This allows more people to compete in more rounds without absences.

There are just 6 weeks between Season 9 finishing & Season 10's Test event and so, as I'm aware that some of you like to have some extended testing time on the cars, I'll be announcing the final S10 vehicle list between Rounds 4 (23/10) & 5 (6/11) of this season. That will give you all around 3 months before the S10 Test event (29/01) to take them out, shake them down, spin then round, light them up, or whatever verb + preposition combo you like best.

I suspect that you will need the time to do your due diligence, as we have (deliberately) kept the vehicle carset quite large for S10, hopefully to provide even more variety and make the already tricky choice that much harder.

The last thing that will be released will be the finalised track list, as we are still compiling that at the moment, so you won't have the full 3 months of testing the League cars on the League tracks.

As finalised details emerge, those details will be formally posted in the (yet to be created) S10 Intro & Info Thread, and this thread will metamorphosise into the S10 General Chat thread as we get past the end of S9. Until things are finalised, everything I say in here and should be filed under a "provisional" banner.

As always, there is to be no talk of laptimes, relative speeds etc. either before the vehicle confirmation while you are speculating, or after confirmation when you are testing.

Here are the details I can release now:-

Nominal Season Class: GTC-65 (I say nominal, as there may be cars that are unbalanced in their own class that match up well in this set).
Number of Available Vehicles: 9
Default to mod ratio: 4:5
Rounds: 8
Format: 100km (200km finale)

Vehicle set teasers:
3 of the 9 cars have appeared in previous Seasons run by me (not necessarily in the same season as each other).
2 of the 9 cars have models in the Current season.
There is 600kg between the lightest and heaviest cars in the S10 car set.
The most powerful car has nearly 3x the power of the weakest
1 of the 9 cars has never been used by RD in any event (yet).
There are 5 different manufacturing nations represented in the car set

I've already started on the clean install procedures, I'm about 50% of the way through the Cars zip, and nearly done the tracks one.

I'm going to progress on the basis that everyone can get a default installation + all cars patch in place (otherwise you wouldn't be here at all), and then the Car & Track archives will just be overlaid on that clean installation.

I'm going to try and clean everything up, and pare it down to the bare minimum of cars to save space. I won't bother with the entire mods for the Escort, Alfa & Ferrari - just the required cars. This means that - for people who haven't chosen their car yet (Bob Hutchins) - you will need to specify what models you are looking at (if they are mod cars) so I can include at least 1 default, and not yet chosen, vehicle.

I will also be trying to get the Escort, Alfa & Lotus into the GTC65 folder as it makes setting up the servers easier.

We will give the skinpack another go, because I will have packed everything properly, and it didn't look like it was skins at issue after all, just peoples install of the host models.

Questions?

Probably a very basic one re the second clean install.

Do we just rename our existing install (eg GTL Club), and then just install the new one eg GTL League.
I'm not sure if we need to be careful about registry issues? I've never tried having two installs.

Incidentally, last night I did a fresh install from digital (including saving User Data, assorted useful files, uninstalling, manual deletion, basic install, copying all cars file, creating new profile, copying in other useful files, copying ffb setting, copying username and pw for online, getting online) in 17 and a half minutes from start to finish.

It's not too much of a chore, in the guide I'm writing I will be saying what files to keep to make your life just a little easier on a new install.

Huh, I guess I'm the only one without forum access for the past 20 hours

All seemed fine for me. But I could understand if some had issues. I've been around a few years, and still had to check a few times where each car was supposed to go. I can understand new guys having some issues with that.

Ah well, it's nothing major at least, hope we'll all be good for take 2 :)

Hello
Just about to do a new install GTL for league only. One question right now is ....In the installation it is asking" Where should Setup place the program's shortcuts?"
It has selected SimBin\GT Legends with the option to use a different folder.
I understand this but I am concerned that my present GTL install has it's shortcuts here also. Any concern or just leave as is and hit next?

This update isn't going to be a packaged auto installer is it - I don't do auto install the same as I don't do Simsynch (my ONLY reason for not entering SRP IFM Season this year is they are using Synch software) - call me old fashioned, call me paraniod - I call it if my installs going to get messed up its going to be something I've put in that I KNOW I have put in thats broken my install and not something thats auto installed or downloaded that nerfs my install. I know, its so easy to do a reinstall - but I come from a background of once a system is LIVE its LIVE and you solve the problems because you can't simply reinstall - thats just me but when I see mates having problems with windoze and their answer is a fresh install every few months it really riles me - Imagine putting an EPOS system in, having a problem and then reinstalling everything - its an absolute last resort because in that scenario you loose track of takings from shops as well as stock in shops and main distribution centres and trust me when that happens its a real real pain.

Nah, same as any mod, just a GameData folder with all cars and skins in a single archive.
And required sounds.

It will be, as Senad says, an "unzip into the main folder" style archive. If you open it up and look at the structure within the archive, you will see the top level is a "GameData" folder, and everything cascades down, and recurses up, from there.

If people want to unzip somewhere else first, and then copy paste, then as long as they paste the extracted GameData folder into the top directory of the installation (ie the folder they chose and named during the install process) they will be fine.

Very pleased to hear that - I'm really hoping I will get away with having a single install and just removing the GameData folder and putting the league one in its place as I need.

Dave Flower No, that will not work.

My archive does NOT include default cars etc. other wise it'd be:

a) illegal, and
b) absolutely massive.

It adds to the default GameData structure, it doesn't replace it.

If you want a straight switchable GameData folder, take a copy of the Default one (do not remove or cut), and save it away. That way, the archive updates a default GameData to create a "League" Game Data in the install structure, and then you can switch about between that "LeagueData" and your saved away default GameData to your hearts desire.

GameData is a big folder, containing not just cars, but also Sounds, Locations etc.

The archive we will provide is just to get the Vehicles right.

I'm really hoping I will get away with having a single install and just removing the GameData folder and putting the league one in its place as I need.

I'd guess it will be a case of installing the Gamedata folder over the top of the existing one, NOT removing the existing one. If you remove your existing Gamedata folder, you will definitely be in a world of pain. ;)

I know Stuart has just said this, but I wanted to clarify that bit vs what you had posted.

EDIT: Ignore me, I see Stuart clarified it much better while I was typing (at snail pace).

I have posted an Install Guide here. I have to ask everyone to do a clean install of GT Legends. I have also included a guide to set up GTL for the first time and to copy settings (profile/control settings etc) from an existing install.

For your league install:
  • Please make a fresh install for the league
  • Set up GTL by either following the guide or by copying settings as I described.
  • Make sure the "LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT" contains the following: 81.3.59.61. If you have problems registering, follow the tips in the Install thread
  • Please do not install anything (mods/skins) on the league install until we have the League Pack ready.
