Ancevski dominates in the Alps
(No podium in testing)
Milos Ancevski came away from Monaco with a spring in his step after a superb Monte Carlo rally. Fastest through stage 1, he didn't seem to care about allowing anyone else to get good results as he blasted home fastest in the second stage too. No wonder everyone else is shaking in their boots. After a shaky stage 1 which included a spin, Tim Engberink was second fastest in stage 2, bringing the Williams into 3rd fastest. The Red, White, Yellow and Blue machine looks formidable at the moment, at least on a rally stage. The Greek S19 champion Manolis Sigoulakis looks like he may be back, as his two consistently fast stages brought him second fastest. His team mate Omer Said looked much stronger than he has for a long time, aster two solid finishes brought him up the list. 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th was a tale of two stages. Oorjit Mishra was just pipped to the top time in stage 1 after a small gearbox glitch near the end of the stage, but it came to haunt him in stage 2, as the loss of 2nd and 4th gears made the hairpins and straights really difficult. However, 6th in his first test is not a bad thing at all. Sasha Jednak found the snow a little tricky in stage 1, but once it had melted for the Col de Turini, the Serbian was flying into the top 4. Van Diemen and McLaren had solid but unspectacular runs in the midfield (apart from Harvey's stage 2 miracle) and Ben Utzer popper up in 8th place. Steven Poirier's Raider did not have a good Monte Carlo. After clipping a tree early in stage 1, the Canadian had to nurse his crabbing car along the rest of the stage. The right rear suspension was bodged together at the services, but it fell off completely early in stage 2. How Poirier managed to finish is a mere miracle, albeit a long way back. Andy Graham was quite poor in stage 1, but drama was to come later along the Col, as the Brit overshot a hairpin and rolled his car down the mountain. BMW Williams are still searching for 3 of the cylinders from his engine. Donald Brugman was forced to take an extensive penalty for not completing the first stage. He misheard his Online AMG Racing mechanic who told him to "Break in the new car". The Dutchman subsequently decided to plough into a ditch and rip the front right corner off his car. The team were not best pleased.
