R3E ffb handling & physics

The more i use race room the more realistic & natural the handling feels to me, along with very good ffb, i have about 40hours of play. I originally starting playing pcars & then i got into ac & started playing them both for a while before ditching pcars because i couldn't live the physics & ffb & now i'm starting to feel the same about AC, that i don't have the same level of control as in r3e. So i do wonder why AC is held up as the pinnacle of handling & ffb? do i just prefer RR even though less realistic?

I think it's a case of horses for courses... it depends on the person. I think AC's physics are very good in general, but I actually prefer the physics in both AMS and R3E, with R3E being my favourite of the bunch. It's hard to say which is the most "realistic" since most of us haven't driven any of the featured cars on a real race track. So what it eventually comes down to is which we prefer the 'feel' of.

For me personally, it's also more than just the physics and FFB too. It's the 'feel' of the whole driving experience, which includes visuals, sound, and other details. When I play AC I feel like I'm playing a driving simulator. When I play R3E I get so immersed that I feel like I'm driving a real car, and that's exactly what I'm after. I uninstalled AC a few weeks ago because for me, it's just inferior.

I just don't get the pedestal people put AC on in terms of its handling, that its somehow nailed it & nothing will ever be as good until of course tire v11 is out.
See, and here is where personal preferences come into play. I've always had the feeling that while being very good, the cars in R3E seem to be much grippier than in AC, or rather regain grip quicker after sliding. I'm comparing eg the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 on the Nürburgring in both Sims. I have never driven the real car, so I have no idea which one is the more realistic, I only know that I prefer the feeling AC gives me in that department.

I'm with you on this Neil. I own every single sim, always looking for the most realistic experience. Around 2 weeks back I finally found the games sweet spot. after nearly 4 years. Result bought most of the content and now find AC physics sluggish. In VR i'm talking gfx not physics Project cars = car PORN and yes its horny, in AC not so good yet way better than RRE.
RRE looks dark and dull, which I forgive as i'm loving the physics.

I have to agree. I find R3E the most enjoyable at the moment. Some of it is sound, but a lot is the FFB which is pretty darn good. I don't think its physically "accurate", meaning it isn't what you would normally get through the wheel but I don't care because it feels good and the experience is excellent. I think AC and iRacing get caught up a bit in providing the most "accurate" steering feel that you get in a race car and that doesn't necessarily provide a great experience.

Inside your main folder theres a sub folder called moods.....racerooms version of sweetfx in a way, it has several graffic settings i prefer realistic....to select one of the you have to rename it default, so do a backup of that folder so dont forget which one is :)

Totally agree with the op!
Iam starting to think it really depends on your wheel and the strength of the driver. I own every title and take alot of time setting up wheel properly for each, but
once i found the sweetspot in raceroom with my thrustmaster tx I just found the ffb more alive giving me a better feel of what the cars are doing and stronger than other titles.
FFB is very good but the tire model is still missing some features which i am sure will come at some point.
Raceroom has turned into a very well rounded product but the part that tops off the immerson factor for me and pretty much put my other sims on shelf is the sound :) only other sim that sounds remotely good compared to raceroom is iracing atm.
I cant wait for more features and the switch over to the unreal engine.

how funny is it that 2 years ago this was regarded as one of the worst in physics and ffb. R3e came a long way. I too find myself playing it more and more. Not because of the ffb or physics, but the complete package. I enjoy racing in r3e the most currently, but still enjoy the other sims for different reasons.

For me, because I prefer racing cars, I'll take R3E, rF2, and AMS over AC. I like how they replicate the racing experience (cars, tracks, racing features, etc.). If I preferred street cars, then AC would most likely be my sim of choice. I actually think many are impressed with AC, and Kunos should be commended for doing a fine job, because of how the driving physics feel on these street cars - it is convincing. But, if I get in an AC race car, I don't get the feeling of anything exceptional from the physics standpoint. It's a little hard to compare apples to apples as there isn't much in the line of street cars in R3E/rF2/AMS - there are a few and in some cases the street car feel is done just as good as AC (street Corvette in rF2 for one comes to mind).
To me, AC is the Gran Turismo of the PC driving/racing games.

Did you try the Fonsecker Sound Mod for AC? No street cars but many many of the race cars! They sound even more immersive than R3E, the Z4 GT3 screams your face off :p

I thought the same, but RRE really comes to life with sweetFX! Sure, the textures etc are just not as detailed but for me it's ok with SweetFX :)
Have a look at this thread: LINK on Page 1 you find all data, on page 2 you find my custom settings (little bit less shiny).
Here is a little picture for teasing: (I updated my sweetFX to a little less "red toned". Colourfull but a bit more realistic than on this pic)

Regarding the dark dull look,There's a shader pack in the root folder, you can change it by naming the one you want to use as "default"

Wow, wouldnt have expected anyone to say this. RR is already the sim with the most saturated colors on the market.

If you want dark, dull and drab, check out rF2 or AC without post processing :p

You failed to read my post correctly.
I said dark and dull in VR. I never once mentioned anything but VR.

On my 4k screen it looks fine ;-)
