R.I.P James Horner

I was really saddened to hear about this yesterday, the guy was a true genius.

Unfortunately in the UK as he's not a footballer or film star it was hardly covered. A quick google search lists USAToday and other American sites but not much elsewhere.

My personal favorite is Star Trek The Wrath of Khan. He took the entire floaty sci-fi film track and turned it on it's head into something more marching band, more military in style. Superb stuff.

Then the complete opposite with Titanic, some of the most beautiful music ever written for film.

James Horner, Gerry Goldsmith and John Williams are for me the three amigos in film score music and we've lost someone with talent I can only just imagine.

You will be missed boss, but your music will live on not just on screen but also on iPod, music players and CD players around the world :)

BTW, I didn't include Hans Zimmer in there because although he is incredible also he likes to play with electronics in his music, these three always tended to be purely classical. They brought the whole orchestra style back into the movies. :)
