Wow! These Tires have been taking care of business since the 60's !!
Again, I had two fun races but not very good ones. There's still a lot to learn about these powerful beasts, that's a fact..
Inspired by last week's Porsche event I decided to give the RSR a go. I only ever drove a few test laps with it and had never raced it before. Even with default setup, it turned out to be far less horrible than I remembered it to be but in my hands it was clearly no match for all the muscle on this track.
In order to get at least decent top speed without much acceleration loss, I resorted to a gearing trick I learned from Eck that worked wonders for the Escort RS2000 here a while ago.
Getting off the line in R1 wasn't bad at all despite a looong 1st gear and Stuart scaring me when crossing the track sideways.. Few corners later Knut went airborne and scared me coming back down on a collision course:eek: , but escaped out before hitting me. Thanks mate, sorry about your R1. Still I spun off all the way to the fence  losing my front splitter, and when I got back on track I was last with noone in sight. But only 2 corners later I was amongst Leszek, Peter and Hans again, and had a good time all the way to the end, where I finished 4th, which equals Last-of-the-survivors..
For R2 the most powerful Capri was waiting for me, another 1st time in a race I think. It was quicker, but still way slower than the big 'Vettes. And again, it took me less than a lap to lose my front splitter but unlike the Porsche the Capri seemed to suffer from that, as I could not get within a sec of my practise laptimes all race
Again, it was a matter of survival, as those Tires-of-Doom worked their magic on a lot of my opponents and I found myself fighting the Capri more than fighting my opponents, apart from a nice battle with William in his Alpina BMW in the final laps. That was fun, and had you been in the Schnitzer BMW I would not have gotten away with it I think
Thanks Stu for organising, and thanks all for racing! Hope to see you tomorrow in the Alfa's.
