Thats indeed how it looks now when reading those words Monte-Z spoke. If they don't want Massa to drive next to Alonso why don't they just fire him. Give him a couple of millions and focus on a new driver.

But they havent done that so they should back him up. If a driver is a good enough to be named as Ferrari's 2nd driver he should deserve the support of the team and management.

Well we saw the failure of a good start on 2011, yet he was ahead of Alonso in the first few races until Monaco when their old TD was fired, which he should have been since he sucks anyways...so yeah If he cant deliver this year at all, then idk, bring Kimi back?lol doubt it, but mos def some1 else.

massas always seemed like a nice guy and i hopehe has a good season.
i think it's probably a case of not thinking anybody is a significant step up from massa and hoping that kubica is ready for the seat next season

Ferrari certainly have a number of options for 2013: Bianchi and Perez are both Ferrari Academy drivers, there were those rumours of Kubica (long shot).

Personally, I would like to see Kobayashi there if he's allowed to race. But it's Ferrari so any driver they pick will probably have to be Alonso's helper.

Massa does well when his teamates are underperforming,he tends to feed off that...on the flip side he struggles when they are faster...i think just like Hamilton he tends to have phycological meltdowns,albeit nowhere nearly as pronounced and nowhere nearly as outspoken,but it affects his driving and consistency for long periods of time(just my opinion)...it is obviously not easy always having such high profile teamates as He has,so i think Massa is alot faster then what the picture suggests..his problem is that he is just not a strong dominant character and is easily shaken and prone to mistakes(when under pressure) just like his "best friend" LH,so my guess is that Ferrari will be looking to replace him next season, ill be definetely rooting for him this year though

It´s not Monte pushing Massa at all. If you think about it, he never managed to take a podium for the team all season...
Alonso took plenty of them and even won one race in that inferior car.

Massa knows that this year will be his last chance, out of a gazillion chances. Maybe he prevails knowing that it´s do or die this time.
I bet Monte´s and Ferrari´s patience is running out now and i´m fairly sure he would have been out a long time ago if it weren´t for his personality. From what i´ve read he´s one of the most loved drivers on the grid.

It´s up to him. Perform and you keep your seat. Don´t perform and prepare to leave the house. It´s very simple for Massa really.

He doesn´t have to beat Alonso, he just have to be very close to him. Otherwise he´s just taking up space and not using the cars full potential.

MASSA'S FUTURE DEPENDS ON SLUMP RECOVERY - FITTIPALDI

Thursday 25 July at 08:35 : Jul.25 (GMM) Brazilian legend Emerson Fittipaldi thinks the second half of 2013 will be crucial to countryman Felipe Massa's future.

Having emerged from his performance slump of 2012, Massa has more recently struggled with a string of crashes and spins that now threaten his place at Ferrari, where he only has a contract until the end of the season.

"I see Massa's future as depending on how well he will go in the second half of this year," Fittipaldi, a two-time world champion of the 70s, told Brazil's Totalrace.

"He's aggressive, he has talent and is very fast, but sometimes an athlete has phases where he cannot put it all together," he explained.

"But I'm sure he will come out of it."

Fittipaldi revealed that, in the midst of Massa's string of incidents, he managed to speak face-to-face with the 32-year-old Paulista.

"I spoke to him at Silverstone and told him that every athlete goes through difficult times in his career -- and this is not just in motor sport but in every sport.

"And, suddenly, everything comes back in your favour."

Massa's first chance to turn it around is this weekend in Hungary, the last race before the summer break and factory shutdowns.

"What I would like most of all," said the Ferrari driver, "is to turn things around, because going on holiday with a good result under my belt would really make the difference."

You're right, I was wrong - it was actually four weekends in a row: Monaco Practice 3 (driver error), Monaco Race (car), Canada Qualifying 2 (driver error), Silverstone Practice 2 (driver error), Nürburgring Race (driver error).
