F1 Manager 2024 Unveiled, Introduces Create-A-Team Mode

F1 Manager 2024 Unveiled, Introduces Create-A-Team Mode RD.jpg
The third F1 Manager game by Frontier Developments, 2024, will not only introduce a new custom-team game mode, but a suite of planned gameplay refinements and upgrades.

This year’s official Formula 1 management game, F1 Manager 2024, has been formally revealed – and for the first time, budding Frédéric Vasseurs can create their own teams.

Once again replicating the current season – with drivers, teams, cars and tracks from the Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships – Frontier Development’s latest release will once again see you take on the role of a team principal, overseeing progression on and off the track.

While gameplay footage of the latest instalment is expected later, for now, a new game mode is the focus, first teased (if you looked closely) last week.

Create Your Fictional Team

Something seen in the F1 driving games by Codemasters via a dedicated My Team mode, being able to fashion a customised team is also siloed within F1 Manager 2024.

Create A Team will sit alongside the traditional career seen in F1 Manager 2022 and 2023, which saw you take to the helm of an existing outfit, plus the Race Replay scenario mode, where you re-lived moments from each grand prix.

The ability to create an eleventh, fictional team, was not possible in the previous F1 Manager instalments. With this year’s release, you too will be able to bestow upon a team your favourite money-transferring app, just like the RB squad.

THL Halifax Reward Account – it has a certain ring to it.

As the platform includes the full roster of F1, reserve and support drivers, selecting either your favourite established stars or potential up-and-comers for your nascent outfit is possible.

The ability to customise design elements of a team, such as the livery, is therefore also a new feature – although how liberating this is remains to be seen.

An emphasis on negotiating sponsorship deals is also set to feature, and we presume these fresh elements will be combined with the usual balancing of where to spend any earnings and pivotal in-race strategy calls.

Mentality System, Revised AI

Aside from the third game mode, there are said to be some notable gameplay improvements which apply across the title, one of which is dubbed the ‘mentality system’ for drivers and team members.

Last year’s F1 Manager ‘23 introduced a confidence stat, this time around there is also a motivation factor to consider which is claimed to “bring individual personalities and demands to the fore.” We hope to see a more detailed explanation closer to release.

In a move that is somewhat expected, AI-controlled rival team behaviour is said to have been enhanced alongside further racing behavioural refinement – last year’s game made strides in this area, but ultimately, the tendency for cars to stumble around the track somewhat unrealistically was prevalent.

Frontier is touting that you can "assess your next decision from above". You could always view a track map, onboard cameras or broadcast-style presentation during races, but perhaps there will be a new view akin to that seen briefly in the trailer?

We expect features introduced last year, such as mid-session saves and being able to switch teams at the end of a season without re-starting a career to carry across into F1 Manager 2024, alongside the staple real-world team radio audio clips.

Mechanical Failures

Breakages or technical glitches, outside of part wear, are also set to change in the 2024 game, with an “ever-present threat of a mechanical failure”, according to Frontier.

This is teased, very briefly, in the trailer with faults being either temporary (‘drivability issue’) or reduced after the session (power reduction). There is also a rather alarming ‘impending failure’ warning shown, too.

Summer Release Date

An exact release day and date for F1 Manager 2024 has not yet been announced, although a summer 2024 window has been confirmed. Platforms and pricing are also known, with a suggested retail price of £29.99/$34.99/€34.99 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Further information is expected on Wednesday 27th March during a Frontier Unlocked livestream.

Is being about to create your own team a reason to revisit the F1 Manager series, or perhaps intriguing enough to try it for the first time? Let us know in the comments below, or discuss in the forum.

How do the F1 Manager games compare to Grand Prix World and Grand Prix Manager 1/2 with regards to depth and variety?

Edit: Ok, it seems the MicroProse game is the alternative I am looking for.

Poorly. It's a good "race engineer - in race" game. But not a good manager game.
It lacks: Supplier negotiations, sponsor negotiations, injuries/illnesses. Reserve driver is pointless. No bankruptcies, no new suppliers coming. A poor contract negotiation system etc.

Well that's me out...

I love a good management game... But something that doesn't focus on the actual management isn't for me... Even if I do often play them in sandbox mode...

This title needs to be more than just a race management title...

In your opinion, what would improve the contract negotiation system?

More feedback than just some arrows and stuff. You have no idea how much, or anything. It doesn't feel like a negotiation, just slightly random number-punching.
Impossible to know why some drivers seemingly want an absurd amount of money as well.

E.g in Football Manager, you can get some pointers from an agent regarding what they expect. It can be a huge pay rise, it can be a special role, or prioritizing something.

Meeh, unrealistic.

My team would not be approved by the FOM if the game was realistic.

So basically, except for the race part, it is still worse than the ten-year-old motorsport manager with mod.
